Meet your guide at a central location in Tromso, and hop inside your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle to travel to the wilderness center, home to the husky farm.

Admire rural Lapland en route, and hear all about the farm, which houses 300 Alaskan huskies and their offspring. Hear how the center dedicates much time and effort throughout the year into training the dogs, with the aim of participating in dog sled racing. Summer is the key time for introducing the puppies to the teamwork and skills needed for sledding.

After about 30 minutes on the road, arrive at the farm, and hop outside to meet the experienced puppy handlers. Then, get to meet some of the youngest sled dogs, aged between four weeks and six months.

After a briefing, set off with the handlers and puppies on a 1- to 1.5-hour hike into the wilderness surrounding the farm. Walk around the picturesque fell sides with your canine companions, and learn more about the skills they need to become star sled racers.

Observe as the handlers put them through their paces with training exercises dependent on the dogs’ ages. See the puppies take off on runs, watch as they learn to work together, and perhaps help out as required.

After your time in the great outdoors, head back to the farm, and bid farewell to the pups. Then, sit down to a hearty lunch in the wilderness center, recharging your batteries with traditional Norwegian dishes.

Lastly, relax on your ride back to Tromso, where your experience ends with a drop-off back at the original starting point.

This trip was everything promised and then some. Gina was an amazing tour guide and the chocolate cake was delicious. For dog/animal lovers, this place is a must visit. I would book again without hesitation.

Such an amazing experience. We were picked up on time at Radisson Blu hotel in Tromso and after a short beautiful drive to the countryside we arrived at the husky farm. Once there, we were provided with boots, pants and a jacket before preparing the puppies food. Once the food was prepared we got to feed the puppies. While the puppies were eating we got to meet some of the sled dogs and they were very playful and sweet to interact with. All of the dogs were very friendly and non-aggressive.

Once the puppies finished eating we got to take them out to play and train them. They were so cute running and playing. Each one of the dogs had a unique personality, you could already start to see some of the puppies that were going to be the future lead sled dogs. As soon as the puppies started to wear out we took them back to their house so they could rest and we could have lunch.

Lunch was reindeer stew excellent and unique. After lunch we got to play with the puppies, it was a lot fun getting to hold and pet the puppies. The day was amazing and a highlight of our Tromso adventure. If you love dogs this is a must!

I feel mixed over this one, but our 9 year old son loved it and it was one of his holiday highlights.

A minibus collected a number of families from Tromso town, and took us directly to the farm. Upon arrival, you're asked to change into wellies and waterproof trousers and jacket. You're then taken into a room where the children help to prepare the puppy food. They're given gloves and are asked to break up the mushed meat - they weren't so keen on this.

The kids then take the food out to feed the young puppies in the pens. The kids loved that bit.

We then took 3 separate groups of puppies of different ages out into the tundra to do 3 separate activities - that explains the need for the waterproofs. Everyone was given treats for the puppies so that we could all be involved in the training activities. Training including calling the puppies so they come to you, playing hide and seek, and trying to get the older pups to run through water.

We were also encouraged to hold 2 week old pups as this helps them become used to people.

A very nice lunch was provided. A shop is onsite but you weren't pushed to buy anything, in fact, when we wanted to buy something we had to find someone to take the money.

Waterproofs returned, we were taken back to Tromso.

The reason I feel mixed - 300 huskies, chained up all day, and are only taken out occasionally through the summer. The reason, I'm assured, is that the huskies would overheat if they're run through the summer. They rest through the summer and are exercised through the autumn ready for the winter. This is when they work daily.

Overall, a good half day out.
