Bike Tours in Austin

12 Reviews
Did you know that Austin, Texas is considered one of the greenest cities in the United States? It may come as no surprise that the bike culture in this eco-friendly city is booming. While Austin is known for many things, experience it like a local by biking your way around the city when you visit.

Experience the Hill Country by training like the Tour de France professionals do. With rolling hills around the Barton Creek area of Austin, morning commutes can be matched with teams of professional (and beginner) riders taking to the highways to train for their upcoming endeavors. Tuesday nights are spent in southeast Austin (Thaxton Rd. and Alum Rock Dr.) for a 27 mile group ride. Lance Armstrong still shows up to lead the pack.

Are you more of a cruiser? Various companies around town are starting to rent out commuter bikes to take advantage of our many bike lanes and trails around town. In 2013 alone, 40 miles of bike lanes were added or enhanced in the city limits with more being planned for the future. If you’re looking for a laid back vibe, Social Cycling Austin has a Thursday Night Ride that ends in a local bar. With their motto, “getting butts on bikes since 2009”, you’ll be in for quite the ride.

Austin also has a thriving BMX scene if you’re into extreme sports. With the X-Games calling Austin its home in 2014, there are quite a few places to get out and have some fun. Fancy yourself some dirt jumps? Head out to Duncan Park on 9th and Lamar to get some air. More of a street rider? House Park can be found just down the road on Lamar between 12th and 15th streets.

Whatever your preference, there is always a bike spot for you in Austin. Take in this unique culture on your next visit to this bike-friendly city!
