Whale Watching & Sea Angling

Whale Watching Hauganes is the oldest whale watching tour operator in Iceland. We operate two classic Icelandic oak boats that are both spacious and extremely stable here in the still fjord of Eyjafjörður which is well sheltered from the open North Atlantic Ocean. We classify our tours as "slow travel" as you will get the chance of enjoying the beautiful landscape of the fjord along with its wildlife while not feeling in a rush or that you are interrupting the wildlife in any way. Our tours are carbon neutral as we plant one tree for each tour along with blending the oil with bio-diesel made in Akureyri (the capital of North Iceland, just 25 minutes south from us) from frying oils from local restaurants. You will find a restaurant here as well, a campsite, hot tubs down by the black beach of Sandvik and the famous beer-spa here just 5 minutes north from us. We include sea angling in our Whale Watching & Sea Angling tours, something that all fishing enthusiasts should try!

The Askja Tour - From Lush to Lunar

The Askja Caldera tour brings out the essence of Iceland nature experience. The day begins early, heading into the barren wastelands of Iceland´s interior. Our ride is a Jeep and the CO2 impact of the whole trip is offset by a certified agent. There will be stops along the way in order to meet locals who show us the “hows” and “whats” of living in this wonderful place of contrasts. Along the way there will be plenty of photo ops, offering the chance to capture the incredible beauty and landscapes that go from lush to lunar. Lunch stop is en-route depending on conditions on the way, including delicious locally sourced ingredients. We will stop by to visit the place that NASA used as a training ground for astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin for the Apollo 11 lunar landing in 1969.Askja is an active volcano, which last erupted in 1961. The tour includes a hike to the explosion crater Víti (e. Hell) where it is possible to bathe in the geothermal lake in the crater.
