This is our therapeutic walk. It´s very quiet and away from all the crowds....This levada was constructed by the people from the villages of Porto Moniz and Ponta do Pargo to aid the "moinhos" or water mills situated on the walk. The ruins of these mills can still be distinguished along the wallk. Along the walk you can expect to find dense vegetation often very green. Some may call it mystic, with many ferns and laurel trees. There are many water springs and "water features" flowing out of the interesting rock formations. A resonably flat walk, this is a great levada for those who want to experience the forest, the fauna and flora and the water canals without stress. On the way back we stop at the Lighthouse of Ponta do Pargo for the big cliff views of the south west.A poncha/coffee/tea stop before making our way back
Early departure to avoid traffic.Stop at local bakery/coffee shop and supermarket for food and water.Moderate, 15km walk, including a fair amount of steps to overcome as well as a tunnel, flat and spacious.Approximately 4:30 hours to complete ranging in altitudes of 900m to 1290m above sea level.Scenic drive back to residence/hotel including viewpoint stops and a local "poncha" bar/coffee/tea.
