Hill of Glory (Cerro de la Gloria) Tours

Hill of Glory (Cerro de la Gloria)
Rising up from San Martin Park, the Hill of Glory (Cerro de la Gloria) is one of Mendoza’s most recognizable landmarks. Perched on a small hill, the 14-ton bronze monument was designed by Juan Manual Ferrari to honor the Army of the Andres, who fought during the 19th-century Battle of Independence.

The Basics
Visit the Hill of Glory (Cerro de la Gloria) as part of a Mendoza city tour, which typically cover Alameda Stadium and San Martin Park—full-day tours often combine a morning of city sightseeing with wine tasting in the vineyards. You can climb the many steps (or take the ramp) to the top of the monument, from which views extend across the Mendoza vineyards and the surrounding Andes Mountains.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Admission to the Hill of Glory is free.
  • Active travelers can walk, run, or cycle to the top of the hill.
  • There are restrooms, a café, and plenty of free parking available at the top of the hill.
  • The monument is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

How to Get There
The Hill of Glory is located around three miles (five kilometers) west of downtown Mendoza, and is a 15-minute drive from the city. You can access the monument via San Martin Park, which is a 20-minute uphill walk from the park entrance. To skip the hassle of arranging transport, opt for a sightseeing tour by bus.

When to Get There
It’s possible to visit the Hill of Glory at any time of day or night. Most tour groups arrive around mid-morning or mid-afternoon, but for the most atmospheric views, time your arrival to coincide with sunrise or sunset.

San Martin Park

The Hill of Glory is located in the 1,240-acre (500-hectare) San Martin Park, so it’s worth leaving time to explore the green space. Tree-lined walkways, playgrounds, and a sprawling lake are among the highlights, and there’s also a number of fountains and monuments dotted throughout. The park is also home to the Natural Science Museum, the Estadio Malvinas soccer stadium, and Mendoza Zoo, plus a golf course, horse-riding center, and tennis courts.
