Start the day with 8am pickup at your accommodations in Essaouira, then begin the 2.5-hour drive to Agadir in a private, air-conditioned vehicle with a personal driver/guide. Take in views of Berber villages and the Middle Atlas Mountains as you wind down the isolated Atlantic coast—if desired, stop to explore some of Morocco’s far-flung beaches.
Upon arrival in Agadir, get your bearing in the city’s hilltop kasbah, one of the few historic landmarks to survive a 1960 earthquake that devastated the city. Walk the perimeter of the outer wall, where you can make out traces of former homes, along with historic inscriptions in Arabic and Dutch. Continue to the modern quarter to see the Earthquake Victims Memorial Wall, then immerse yourself in Berber culture and history at the Amazigh Heritage Museum.
Pause for a lunch, then plan the perfect afternoon for your interests, with independent time to soak up the sun on the beach, browse Agadir’s shops for souvenirs, or try your luck at one of Agadir’s three casinos. At the end of the afternoon, meet back up with your driver at roughly 5pm for the return trip to Essaouira, driving back to your hotel as the sun sets over the Atlantic coast.
