From the Nature Park our next stop is the Horeke Hotel where we will have lunch.

Horeke was the second town ever in New Zealand, and the pub is the site of New Zealand’s first ever commercial ship building yard established in 1826. The pub is the oldest surviving hotel in New Zealand and was established in 1833. The original building remains, however it has been added to over the years to create what you see today. It was the second hotel to be licensed (1842) in New Zealand. Our host Peter will give a short but very informative presentation covering off the history and culture of the area.

Last stop is the Māngungu Mission Station which was established in 1828 and was the site of the second signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. The Treaty of Waitangi gave birth to New Zealand as we know it today. While we are at the Mission Station, you will enjoy a short guided tour hosted by a member of the Church Elders.

The Hokianga Harbour is an area of outstanding natural beauty and remains one of New Zealand’s most unspoilt tourist locations. On our tour, there will be ample opportunity to take photographs not only of the sites but of the Harbour and surrounding countryside.
