This tour was amazing. Our driver Felicity was very knowledgeable and helpful. She made our day really enjoyable and included a couple of more stops which added to our enjoyment. A brilliant day was had by all. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Great trip to shore and wonderful to experience and learn about some of the history of New Zealand. Only a short stop but well worth it. My only complaint was lack of WIFI in the arears we visited - Manuka Chocolates
A beautiful day makes for a pleasant tour. The bus connection at Waitangi was a bit confusing but being a small port for tenders -- no problem. Tour delivered us through the Waitangi Preserve and short walk up Mt. Bledsloe, then on to the historical Kemp House and Stone Store and finally the Haruro waterfall. The on-your-own lunch stop wasted much time in taking, preparing and delivering each diner's order and unfortunately no time was left for the small but bustling coastal town of Paihia without arranging your own return to Waitangi --disappointing.
The tour guide fell behind schedule and at the tour end gave us the choice of not spending time in town and taking the shuttle bus back to the tenders or to skip town and go back to the tenders. As the line was extremely long for the shuttle buses, we chose to skip visiting the town.
Bay of Islands is beautiful and we enjoyed being in a small group to visit the area and learn about the early settlement of New Zealand.
The tour was exactly as described. Some members of our group were advised by the tour company owner to be on the first tender, even though our tour start time was 10 am. Thinking that we would be starting early we arrived on shore at 8:40 am only to be told that the tour would leave at 10 am as scheduled. Then to make things worse, our van was the last one out since they waited for 4 people who were on the later tenders. We did not start until 10:15 am. This was a low key excursion with pleasant but not spectacular sights. We much preferred being in a 16 passenger van to a large bus. The optional stop in Paihia was worthwhile, we liked walking around the craft fair and shops. It was a relaxing way to finish our cruise, and got us back to the boat with plenty of time left in the day to pack up our things.
My husband and I were rather disappointed with this tour. Highlights meant a couple of water falls, a couple of churches and a few other sights which didn't interest us. The one thing on the tour we were looking forward to was the Glow Worm Caves - which were never mentioned. Whatever is in the picture, we didn't see. We had so many wonderful tours in New Zealand that I'm sorry we can't recommend this one.
Our guide was fairly new and spoke more about herself than the topic stops. Fairly aggressive driver. Also there was an optional stop to see the glow worms in a cave. There was an additional cost to see this and only 3 of the 12 folks on our bus decided to go. That left the rest of us sitting on the bus waiting 40 minutes, not cool! We had to race back to port to catch the last tender. This optional stop should not be included or if it is, the costs should be included in the tour price.
