Make your own way to the L'atelier des Chefs cooking school in Central Bordeaux around 15 minutes before your class starts and meet your instructor to discuss the evening’s menu. Depending on the option selected, you’ll be creating a main course and dessert (1-hour classes), a 3-course menu (1.5-hour classes) or a range of different dishes (2-hour classes).
Under the guidance of a professional chef, set to work creating typical French dishes and get hands on as you chop the vegetables, cook the meat and blend the sauces. Menus change depending on the season, so you might be whipping up a hearty duck confit, creating show-stopping entrées or baking Bordeaux’s traditional cannelé pastries. The emphasis is always on fresh, regional cuisine whether it’s lamb that was reared on the salt marshes of nearby Pauillac, local specialties like foie gras or fish from the Bay of Biscay off the Bordeaux coast.
Those taking the 2-hour class will have chance to learn more advanced techniques like how to finely chop shallots, sauté to perfection and deglaze a pan, but whichever class you choose, expect to pick up plenty of expert tips and advice to help take your cooking to another level. Once your class is complete, take the time to sample your creations or pack them up to take away with you.
Please note: As this is an authentic French cooking school, the class is conducted mostly in French. The chefs will translate the necessary steps into English for non-French speakers.
