Drive for approximately 45 miles (72 kilometers) to Plymouth, site of the historic Plimouth Plantation. During your visit to this re-created colonial-era site, you’ll start by learning about the Wampanoag people that first encountered the area’s English colonists and meet some of their modern-day descendants. Then take a stroll through this replica of a 17th century colonial hamlet, complete with residents costumed in appropriate period garb. Among the other attractions you’ll find at this colonial village are a collection of historic and rare livestock, a craft center featuring tools once used by the colonists, and a theater which presents a range of independent and foreign films.

Just outside the plantation gates is the ‘Mayflower II’ ship, a replica of the 17th-century vessel that once transported the Pilgrims across the Atlantic Ocean. You can check out this historic sailing ship at your own expense. Also nearby is the Plimouth Grist Mill, which offers insight into the techniques used by 17th-century New England residents to grind their corn (also at your own expense). Finish the day by stopping at historic Plymouth Rock, the famous site where legend has it that the Pilgrims first arrived in the New World. Finish the day with a return trip aboard your private vehicle back to Boston for a drop off at your hotel or other accommodations.
