Visit two of Australia’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed natural wonders — Fraser Island and the Great Barrier Reef — with a guide and the flexibility to add activities of interest to your itinerary.

Your tour begins with transport from the Gold Coast, Brisbane or Sunshine Coast to Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. Fraser Island is loaded with freshwater lakes and creeks, giant sand dunes, a lush rainforest, multicolored sandstone cliffs, and long stretches of beach, so it's easy to understand why the local Aboriginal people named the island K’Gari — paradise. From there, travel further north to Kelly's Beach Resort. The resort serves as your launching point to explore the Great Barrier Reef on a full-day boat tour to Lady Musgrave Island. Choose to snorkel, swim in an area known for turtles, and upgrade for additional activities such as scuba diving and deep-sea fishing.

When booking, choose a private room or shared room for your accommodation at beachside resorts in three locations (see Pricing for a range of lodging options). Three breakfasts, two lunches, and three dinners are included.

Please note: Tour pricing does not include National Park and ferry fees and Great Barrier Reef tax (AU$270 per person, cash), which must be paid to the driver on departure.

Day 1: Gold Coast, Brisbane or Sunshine Coast – Fraser Island (L, D)
After pickup from a Gold Coast, Brisbane, or Sunshine Coast designated location, your 4WD coach drives to the Cooloola Recreation Area in Great Sandy National Park. There, spot kangaroos at Noosa North Shore and Teewah Beach. Depending on the tide, you may even get to explore Rainbow Beach by vehicle, and stop at Red Canyon.

After touring beautiful Cooloola, continue to the Fraser Island ferry. Once you arrive on Fraser Island, board a 4WD vehicle for a breezy ride down the sandy highway of Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Along the way, get out at Eli Creek for a dip. You can opt to walk upstream along a boardwalk, then hop in the creek’s gentle waters and float back to the beach.

Next, hike along the rocky coast at Indian Head, where you get great ocean views. You may catch sight of sharks, turtles, dolphins, rays, and even migrating humpback whales (July to November). Then, continue by coach to the Maheno Shipwreck. Your guide provides a tasty picnic lunch at midday. As you drive, keep your eyes peeled for the island’s wild dingos.

Check in at Eurong Beach Resort for the evening, then have dinner at the resort’s restaurant. Afterward, have the option to take a guided night walk on the beach.

Overnight: Eurong Beach Resort

Day 2: Fraser Island – Rainbow Beach (B)
After breakfast, drive to Pile Valley for a guided walk through the rain forest. Check out the satinay trees, famously resistant to termites and fire and thus popular for timber. Learn about Fraser Island’s importance to the timber industry at Central Station, a former logging station. Stroll through towering ghost gums, pine trees and king ferns and enjoy the clear waters of Wanggoolba Creek. Head to Lake Birrabeen for a swim and catch some sun on its sandy beach. Then, take a scenic lake drive and end up at Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Have a late lunch (own expense) at Eurong Resort before catching the ferry back to the mainland in mid-afternoon.

After a short drive to Rainbow Beach, your guide will take you to your resort for the night. You’ll have the rest of the day at your leisure. Enjoy swimming or surfing at Rainbow Beach, and marvel at the colorful sand. Your resort provides additional activities (own expense) and you can ask the desk for dining recommendations (own expense).

Overnight: Dingos Backpackers

Day 3: Rainbow Beach – (L,D)
After an early breakfast (own expense), your coach picks you up from Rainbow Beach. After two hours, you will transfer to a second coach at Puma Roadhouse, Kybong.

Enjoy great views of the coast as you go, with a stop to visit Snakes Downunder Reptile Park and Zoo, where you'll find a range of Australian reptiles and native animals. Arrive by mid-afternoon at Mammino's,  where you can taste house-made ice-cream and farm-fresh sugar cane (when in season).

After checking into Kelly's Beach Resort, enjoy a free guided snorkel training at the rock pool in Bargara, or choose from a variety of optional activities optional activities (own expense) including surfing lessons, swimming in an area known for turtles, or visiting Mon Repos, where the turtle conservation center is located. If you're looking for something less active, feel free to simply relax at the pool or beach. In the evening, have dinner at the resort and the night at your leisure.

Overnight: Kelly's Beach Resort

Day 4: Lady Musgrave Island (B, L, D)
In the morning, enjoy breakfast and take an hour-long boat cruise to Lady Musgrave Island on the Great Barrier Reef. Anchor at Coral Lagoon, a pristine paradise with several options for your day’s activities. Put on provided snorkel gear and dive in for a look at the vibrant fish and coral. You might even catch a glimpse of some turtles; a large population nest on Lady Musgrave Island. For more thrills, take a deep-sea fishing or scuba diving excursion (own expense), equipment included.

We enjoyed the items on the itinerary of this trip. Harry and Rhett did a great job with their portion and I only wish had been under their care for the entire five days. However, the customer needs to know that if the 5 day tour doesn't fill up you will find out upon the start of your tour that you may have a different itinerary. This was our case, and instead of starting with the Fraser Island tour we started with the Great Barrier Reef Tour. On the third day we were dropped off at a rest area at 2:30 in the afternoon with no wireless and bad food. We spent the next three hours waiting for a commercial bus to take us to Rainbow Beach. The idea of spending a beautiful November afternoon sitting at a rest area and not touring or getting to our destination is not appealing to us. We arrived at Rainbow beach around 7:30 pm. Once we arrived at Rainbow beach we used the map provided to us to drag our suitcases (a half mile or so) to our hotel and then find our own restaurants. Same for breakfast the next day. After breakfast we dragged our suitcases back to Dingo's backpackers to be picked up by the Fraser Island tour. We were there at 10:15 am for a 10:30 pick up and the tour showed up at 11:30. So we never really got to see much of Rainbow Beach, which would have been lovely. We were too worried about finding restaurants and being at the pickup point on time. We spent about 21 hours with no tour guide and although transportation and hotel were arranged, we were on our own. So I considered the time between tours a wasted day because when I booked this I assumed we would be under the care of the tour company from pick up on day one to drop off on day five. If anything had gone wrong (commercial bus didn't show up, hotel issues, etc.) we would not have a tour guide to resolve this for us. I think if I had known this at the time of booking I would have most likely booked a different trip.

Well I booked a 5 night tour effectively 6 days being driven from Brisbane to Fraser Island and then onto Lady Musgrave Island on the Great Barrier Reef. I was really looking forward to it.
I joined the coach at Brisbane Transit Centre on Saturday March 24th 2018 at 0715 hours and off we set. We picked up additional people at Noosa Heads.
We arrived on Fraser on time via the ferryand we were fortunate that the driver noticed a 4 wheel drive suv had made it through the first stretch of beach because he had told us we were going inland. So the experience was good and our party probably approaching 30 people enjoyed the whole of Saturday. The hotel was good I took a private room and we had an enjoyable evening.
Next morning up at 5:30am for breakfast, packing and departure at 07:20 hours. Another very enjoyable day including swimming and fun at the freshwater lake, followed by a 50 minute walk through the rainforest. No complaints so far. All good stuff. However, at lunchtime we were told that only 3 people including myself were travelling onto Lady Musgrave tomorrow Monday. We were taken to a nice hostel in Rainbow Beach and informed that we were to wait next morning at 0715 hours at a bus stop across the road where we were to be collected by another company. So that was a surprise because the tour to date had been with Sunset Safari.
However, myself and a German couple accepted the situation and went off separately to find lunch, and do our own thing. I didnt mind that and enjoyed a Chinese at a local restaurant. I had my swimming gear with me and began to head for Rainbow Beach but called in at a couple of shops to find a new baseball cap. On entering the second shop, I browsed and an assistant came to help me. Suddenly to my surprise she said are you Robert. I said yes. Why? Tomorrows tour has been cancelled! I said it can't be, I was only dropped off a short time ago. Their man has been searching everywhere for you. You must go back to the hotel immediately. Shocked I turned on my hel and set off. The rep driver told me that the third part company had informed Sunset Safari that a cyclone was imminent on Musgrave and it was too dangerous to cross from mainland to,the island tomorrow Monday. In shock I accepted this explanation and was told I must pack and get to the coach immediately for return to Brisbane straight away. Cursing my bad luck I did as instructed.
Telephone conversations then followed with Sunset calling myself and the other two people. We were offered an alternative holiday Morton Island or our money back for the section of tour lost effectively 4 days. Both myself and the German couple opted for money back. Because the weather was nice in Rainbow, I decided to Google the forecast for Monday. Google offered me an hour by hour forecast. It showed 26 degrees and a mild breeze all day. My son in Brisbane also used Google and told me it mentioned some evidence of cyclone but 3K kilometres away from Musgrave.

It is my belief that the third party company responsible for the final 4 days of our tour, had ditched us because we were only three people going. Maybe a few more from another tours might have been joining, but who knows?
I am so disappointed and cross because I have travelled from the UK to do this holiday within a holiday.
It is unlikely I will return in the future because I am no longer a young man, in fact senior
In addition I wanted to give my Aussie family members some breathing space. That will not now happen.
I was told by the rep that Sunset Safaris know by 2 pm the day before sailing to Musgrave, if there is to be a cancellation

My tour was cancelled after the Fraser Island portion due to weather, but the overnight on Fraser Island was an excellent tour in itself. The island is a truly unique and fascinating piece of the Earth, and should be a higher profile destination for touring.
Also, my experience with Viator was a good one. When the cyclone forced cancellation of the Great Barrier Reef portion of the tour, they offered me an alternative tour or a refund. I could not do the alternative tour for un-related reasons, so they promptly and cheerfully refunded the cost for the Great Barrier Reef portion of the tour. I will definitely tour with Viator again

This trip was TOTALLY awesome! It was the highlight of our vacation. Well worth it. The Fraser Island scenery is spectacular. The Reef was over the top! Our tour guide was Andrew and he was fabulous! Cannot say enough good things about him. Supervisors reading this ..... he deserves a raise in pay. : He went above and beyond the call of duty. Very knowledgeable, great sense of humour and great chef! Would highly recommend this trip. The only thing I would change on the website .... the extra National Park, Reef fees were not easily identifiable on the website. I did not see those fees mentioned at all on the website when booking ....perhaps I just missed it. It came has a bit of a surprize to find out we had to pay extra cash for that. I would suggest including those extra fees in the total pricing on the website. Many thanks Viator and Andrew.

I had a fantastic time. The planning was good, the accommodation was good, except for one night at rainbow.beach and the driver was outstanding! Andrew enhanced every aspect of the trip with his willingness to do anything that was necessary to help, make things easier or better. i give him 5 stars!

Overall, this was a good tour. Our guide for the GBR portion was Keith and he was great! He was fun to hang out with and was knowledgeable. Keith took good care of us and was even our chef on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Nothing was open on the holiday so he took us to a lovely beach and prepared a gourmet picnic. It was a memorable Christmas!
The tour to Lady Musgrave was good/bad - it was a 2.5 hour ride out on a rocking boat which we were told was normal and everyone was seasick. When we got there, we did have about 40 minutes of snorkeling, a nice lunch on the boat, 20 minutes on a glass bottom boat and about an hour to tour the island, all of which were amazing. The bad part was then there was another 2.5 hours of seasickness to get back. I would have liked a little longer on the reef to make up for the 5 hours of very uncomfortable travel.
Regarding the accommodations - Kelly's Beach Resort was very nice, Eurong Beach Resort was ok and Dingo's was nothing but a youth hostel bunk rooms, no towels, smelly, etc.. We were dropped off there on Christmas Day evening and there was no food available nor was there anything open in town. This is also the transition portion of the 2 Viator tours so the hostel folks didn't care and weren't at all helpful. I can't entirely fault Viator but it was very frustrating!! I am not sure why Viator would even choose this place to stay when there were plenty of other regular places around. I would gladly pay more to stay at a place with towels and basic amenities.
The following morning we waited wasted several hours for the next portion of the Viator tour to arrive. When we finally got underway for Fraser Island in the afternoon, things were better. Rhett was our guide and he was very knowledgeable of the area. Fraser Island was beautiful and we especially loved swimming in Lake Birrabeen. Rhett also lead a great night walk on the beach to look at the stars.

This is technically two trips - so there is a bit of bus changing and coach catching involved. We had two amazing guides Rhett for the Fraser Island tour and Eric for the GBR Tour. Great tour guides make an awesome tour. First Fraser Island - Rhett knows this place like the back of his hand. You may think you can self drive this tour, think again. There are tides to consider, the inland roads aka sand tracks are a maze and you have to know how to hand a 4WD properly. The drive along the beach is awesome, the swim in the beautiful Lake Birrabeen was so relaxing until Rhett made us join in his mad ball games at which we totally failed it was fun really. The accommodation at Eurong Beach Resort was basic but good as was the food. We spotted a dingo and Rhett took us on a night walk to see the stars which was brilliant. He can also be persuaded to get his guitar and sing to you. One of the best tour guides ever. Then onto the GBR. Accommodation at Kelly's was very good. Food was basic but good. Hosts there are lovely and you may get a chance of more star gazing through their telescope. The trip to the GBR and Lady Musgrave Island can be choppy. Even some crew got ill. The crew of The Lady Musgrave Experience were excellent, chatting to all passengers. Tea and cakes on offer too. As a nervous snorkeller, I was very reassured that snorkelling was guided with someone watching out for you all the time. On the trip back we were so lucky to be joined by 6 humpback whales who hung around for a while. Magnificent. Altogether a brilliant day. Our group also opted to go paddle boarding the next day. I would recommend this - good teacher and we all managed to stand up and paddle, some excelled and others did yoga on the board. We all fell in. And laughed a lot. Great way to end the trip.

Absolutely amazing tour! I had the best guides, Keith and Andrew, who were not only knowledgeable the entire trip but entertaining. It was more like hanging out with friends (I tried alone) vs a boring guided tour. The views and events were spectacular, especially on the Reef! I'd do it again.
