You day begins with convenient hotel pickup in Chengdu around 8am. Meet your dedicated guide and climb into a comfortable, air-conditioned tour vehicle for the 90-minute journey to Dujiangyan City. Along the way, your driver will answer any questions and make stops if you wish. The benefit of a private tour is total flexibility and personalized attention.
Arrive at the Dujiangyan Irrigation System to learn about the UNESCO-listed example of ancient Chinese science and engineering. The irrigation system provides water to surrounding towns and redirects the Min River for the province's use.
After looking around, stop for lunch (own expense). Choose your own restaurant or take suggestions from your guide.
Make the 20-minute drive to Mount Qingcheng, the birthplace of Chinese Taoism. Hike on the mountain and ride the cable car, then enjoy a boat ride on Yuecheng Lake. You'll get a chance to see many of the artifacts, temples, and relics in the area related to the religion's founding.
At the end of the day, relax on the ride back to Chengdu, which takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. You'll be back at your Chengdu accommodations around 6pm.
