One of the best ways to see the Alaskan wilderness is by flying through the air like an eagle. Prepare for your ziplining with sturdy footwear and pack rain gear (tour operates rain or shine), before being picked up from your Anchorage hotel. During the scenic 2-hour drive north, your informative guide shares commentary about your destination, the railroad town of Talkeetna, surrounded by mountains and rivers, making it a popular weekend getaway for locals.
Upon arrival, enjoy lunch in town and learn about Talkeetna’s gold-mining history, including anecdotes of intrepid mountaineers. Next, at the activities center, receive a safety briefing on ziplining before you head into the mountains above town. (The minimum age for the activity is 10 years old, and participants must weigh no less than 90 pounds and no more than 270 pounds.)
Get fitted into your harness and for the next three hours, zoom through the boreal canopy along nine ziplines. The pace blends speed with time to take in the scenery. During your aerial journey, you’ll see Mt Denali (formerly Mt McKinley), the Alaska Range, ravines, ponds and Chulitna and Susitna valleys. Tread across three suspension bridges and make your way down a spiral staircase, learning about the local plantlife and animals along the way.
After ziplining, your 10-hour tour ends with a relaxing drive back to your hotel in Anchorage.
