What To Expect

Make your own way to the Milford Sound Visitor Center in the Fiordland National Park to board your boat, then set sail across the startling blue waters of Milford Sound. Keep your camera close to hand as you cruise out across the fjord and admire natural wonders like the 525-foot (160-meter) high Bowen Falls, the striking hanging valley of Sinbad Gully, and the snow-capped peak of Mount Pembroke.

Climb onto your boat’s viewing platform to get a better view of the local wildlife, including colonies of fur seals, pods of dusky dolphins, and the rare Fiordland crested penguins. As you continue towards the Tasman Sea coast, pass beneath the distinctive 5,551-foot (1,692 meter) mountain of Mitre Peak, one of New Zealand’s most photographed landmarks.

As you turn back into Milford Sound, see the dramatic approach witnessed by the first settlers at the end of the 18th-century, and hear stories about their journey from your guide’s live on-board commentary. Cruise back to shore and head back to the Milford Sound Visitor Centre, where your tour ends.

Great experience, onboard commentary was loud enough. Staff was helpful. A tip: Buy tickets from them directly or other websites.

How untouched and natural it is. I was absolutely blown away by the magnitude of the place. Just a beautiful piece of Aotearoa that should stay that way

Beautiful scenery really enjoyed the cruise. And the waterfalls were amazing. Specially after it rained on return was just amazing to watch.
Breathtaking scenery

Although the weather was overcast, this did not reduce our enjoyment of this trip. We liked the smaller numbers on board enabling everyone who wanted to take photographs to do so. Interesting commentary: we learned new facts about the terrain.

Lovely, pleasant day on the water. Cruise was 2 hours long which is just enough time to get a feel for Milford Sound.

Even though the weather was terrible on our trip to Milford, the staff aboard the scenic cruise were lovely. They told us all to get a hot drink and showed us when animals were visible. It was extremely wet and windy, but the waterfalls were amazing.

Loved the smaller boat and fewer people. Views were fantastic. Boat took us close to the falls and wildlife (without disturbing). Would highly recommend
Amazing Scenery

Weather not the best with rain and quite cold but this made the scenery even more dramatic. Amazing waterfalls and snow capped mountains. Great cruise and commentary, plenty of hot tea and coffee. All in all an amazing experience.
Karl_H, Mar. 2019
Amazing! Thoroughly enjoyed this cruise. We were taken right up close to sedl rock, we could almost touch the seals. And also under the waterfall. A good soaking! Up close and personal - fantastic. Thank you Mitre Peak Cruises.
