Meet your guide and pick up your rental mountain bike, helmet, and bike lock in central Florence in the afternoon. Head toward the banks of the River Arno to begin your exploration of the city's historic green spaces — peaceful oases often overlooked by tourists.
Constructed in the 16th century at the bequest of Cosimo I de' Medici, Cascine Park was once used as the ruling Medici family’s private hunting and farming grounds and today is home to a variety of monuments and sporting facilities, plus diverse species of trees and plants. It fans out in a narrow strip from the heart of the city, following the flow of the Arno. Cycle along paved and unpaved bike paths that keep you safe from city traffic on a relaxed, leisurely ride. Enjoy the fresh air, and stop to soak up the peaceful atmosphere and perhaps do a bit of bird watching.
The river trail connects to Renai Park, a nature reserve characterized by many lakes and sandy beaches that makes for a favorite water sports and picnicking destination for Florentines. Take a refreshing ice cream break here before returning to the departure point in early evening. Throughout the 4-hour tour, expect to cover around 17 miles (28 km) of flat, easy riding that’s suitable for all experience levels.
