This full-day tour begins with a hotel pickup in Frankfurt followed by a 1-hour drive west to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley for a day of sightseeing between Rudesheim and Sankt Goarshausen. Because of its beauty and history, this 65 kilometer stretch of land is a UNESCO World Heritage Site begging to be explored.
See the river, the small, historic villages and the vineyards. Marvel at the mighty medieval castles — more castles than anywhere else in the world, in fact. Visit the Lorelei, a massive rock that rises 433 feet above the river. Legend has it that a siren named Loreley used to bewitch sailors from upon this granite rock, causing them to ground their boats or lose control and sink. There’s also the Niederwalddenkmal, a monument located in the Niederwald landscape park that was built in the 1870s to commemorate the unification of Germany.
This private tour is a customized experience, so be sure to include any specific requests for desired attractions or activities to the guide at any time. Some possibilities include a boat ride down the Rhine; a medieval castle tour; a cable car ride through the valley to gaze in wonder at the magnificent scenery; or a visit to a winery to taste some of the award-winning local wines. There are plenty of options to consider.
Halfway through the day, the guide can suggest a great riverside restaurant for lunch.
On the return trip to Frankfurt, stop in Rüdesheim to see its most famous attraction, the Drosselgasse — a cobblestone road famously known as “the merriest street in the world.” Finally, the tour ends with a hotel drop-off in Frankfurt.
