Explore the natural and man-made treasures that are China’s UNESCO-listed Danxia Mountain Geopark and Nanhua Monastery on this private 2-day tour, including an overnight stay at a 4-star hotel. Your trip includes round-trip bullet train travel between Guangzhou and Shaoguan, select meals, private transport, and guided tours at your destination.
Day 1: Guangzhou - Shaoguan (L, D)
After early pickup at your Guangzhou hotel, transfer to Guangzhou Nan (Guangzhou South) train station, and catch the high-speed bullet train to Shaoguan. Relax during your 1-hour journey, and on arrival, meet your local guide and travel to Danxia Mountain, a spectacular mountainous area in Guangdong Province ascribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
The region is famous for its natural red sandstone spires, pinnacles, pillars, and arches, many eroded into the shapes of human bodies, birds, and animals. Venture into the Danxian Geopark, and climb to Zhanglao Peak, one of the three main scenic areas. At the summit, soak in the bird’s-eye views of the surrounding rock pillars and formations, and take photos of the famous Yangyuan Rock, a stone spire that resembles a male phallus.
Explore more of the park's temple-dotted mountains, and later, check in at a 4-star hotel nestled beneath Danxian for an overnight stay. Dinner at the hotel is included this evening.
Day 2: Shaoguan - Guangzhou (B, L)
After hotel breakfast, you will visit Zhongshan Park in the city where there are many people dancing, singing or practice Taiji etc., you can join them if you are interested. Then you will be transferred to Nanhua Monastery which is a well-known Chinese Buddhism site for Huineng Monk Body Buddha.
Head inside to tour the halls, courtyards, and precious relics, and see the image of Huineng, based on and believed by many to contain the monk’s actual mummified body.
After your visit, refuel with lunch at a local restaurant before an afternoon transfer to Shaoguan station for your return bullet train ride to Guangzhou. On arrival, travel back to your hotel where your tour concludes.
