Your volunteer day experience begins with convenient pickup at your Chengdu hotel between 7am and 7:30am. Meet your guide and climb into a private tour vehicle, then set off for the Dujiangyan Panda Base.
Arrive and change into your supplied work outfit, including overalls and gloves, which help protect both you and the giant pandas. Learn some basic safety procedures and get an outline of your day's tasks. Volunteer activities can change by the day depending on what the animals' needs are. During your experience, you'll also learn about the conservation efforts and current threats to the bears' survival in the wild.
Around 9am, begin your day's work. Help clean the panda enclosures, then visit the giant panda villa area before feeding time. You may even get to help feed the pandas nutritious snacks and fruit in addition to their major diet staple, bamboo.
Break for a traditional Chinese lunch with the other staff and volunteers around 12pm; this is a great opportunity to ask questions. Following lunch, you'll watch a documentary about panda conservation before participating in a second panda feeding around 2pm.
Wrap up your work and return your provided volunteer outfit around 4pm, you'll be back at your hotel about 5pm.
