Overview

Get a close-up look at both the local farming and fishing communities around Hoi An. A guide accompanies you on this 6-hour tour while you bicycle along rural roads and experience Vietnamese life firsthand. You'll visit several villages and take part in daily activities for a firsthand look at a time-honored way of life. Lunch and hotel transport by minivan are included.
  • 6-hour farming and fishing village tour around Hoi An
  • Ride a bike and participate in a farming experience
  • Snacks, lunch and beverages provided
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off by minivan
  • Choice of morning or afternoon departure

Following a morning or afternoon hotel pickup in Hoi An, you'll transfer by minivan to a bike station in the countryside. After a safety briefing, start on your bike route while accompanied by your guide. You'll pedal along scenic country roads to a local farming village, then participate in daily activities. Work alongside farmers hoeing and tending the soil, watering vegetables and herbs in the garden, and riding water buffalo through the rice paddies.

Then ride a boat to the mouth of the river where it meets the Cu Dai Sea and join fishermen who employ traditional round-nets and cast-nets to fish. Learn to paddle a tightly woven bamboo basket boat, known locally as thung chai, and take a spin around the now-tranquil waterways flanked by coconut groves. You'll hear about extreme conditions endured here by soldiers who fought on both sides of the Vietnam War (American War) that raged for two decades.

Lunch or dinner is served on board the boat along with cold beer or a soft drink. Afterward, you'll return to your hotel by minivan.

Had a great time on this tour. Our tour guide Lilly was awesome young, passionate, authentic, articulate and confident. She gave us an informative and touching insight into what life is like for the local fishing and farming community as well as some of her and her families experience. Particularly engrossing was the story of how her grandfather was affected by his part in the war. The people we visited were humble and engaging and it was great to know that some of our tour fees were going toward helping them out. Food was good and plentiful. You could probably get a cheaper tour but I thought it was worth the money.
