This 2-hour morning tour takes you along the Thu Bon River to the mouth of the Cua Dai Sea to watch locals unload and prepare their catch for sale at the market. You'll row a bamboo basket boat and eat a typical fishermen's breakfast while watching a magnificent sunrise.
  • 2-hour sunrise fish market tour and river cruise from Hoi An
  • Cruise on the Thu Bon River and row a bamboo basket boat
  • Traditional 'fisherman's breakfast' and coffee
  • Transport by air-conditioned minivan
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included
Depart before sunrise with pickup from your centrally located hotel in Hoi An. A short transfer by minivan gets you to the pier where you'll board a boat for a cruise on the Thu Bon River. Arriving at the mouth of the river where it meets the Cua Dai Sea, observe fishermen unloading their daily catch of shrimp, crab, and fish from boats returning from a night at sea.

Then follow them with your guide to the nearby fish market, where you have the opportunity to help prepare the fish and seafood for sale. Soak up the lively atmosphere of this daily spectacle as fishmongers ply their trade.

After this morning ritual, try your hand at rowing a traditional bamboo basket boat used by local fishermen, and admire views of the sunrise over the coast. Back on the main boat, you're served a traditional fisherman’s breakfast while you cruise back to Hoi An.

Following your 2-hour tour, a driver will transport you back to your hotel.

We had booked for a Sunday morning tour 28 May, but on the night before, someone from the local tour agency called my mobile to inform that they don't expect good weather in the morning, and asked if we could change it to Monday morning instead. We accepted the change as we were going to stay in Hoi An for 3N.
The agent picked up at 4.45 am sharp, as arranged. It was a short drive to the boat. That morning was abit cloudy so we couldn't see the sunrise. Along the way, we saw several fishing boats, and many large fishing nets we were given a chance to pull in one of these nets later.
At the fishing village, it was quite a sight seeing the ladies sort their fishes out for sale. Our tour guide bought prawns and squids which was later cooked for our breakfast. We also saw a lady cutting fresh rice noodles into strips, and our guide bought some for breakfast too.
Then we took a short walk to the factory making fish sauce before returning to the boat.
The boat then went towards a small island, but it stopped for a while for one of the boatmen to lower the basket boat into the water and demonstrate how to paddle the basket boat. We then got into the basket boat and given the paddle to try it. The boatman also showed off his skill in manouevering the basket boat but it got me giddy, and I yelled 'Stop' to which the boatman did.
We rowed towards the island where we were given a chance to pull in one of those large fishing net to haul up the catch.
Then it was back onto the boat where the boat Captain had cooked us a deliciously fresh breakfast with the items bought from the fishing village. Then we headed back and was sent back to the hotel.
Even though we didn't see the sunrise, it was certainly worth waking up early for it. Personally, I chose a sunrise tour versus a sunset tour, as there is a lot of activity in the fishing village in the morning. Had a very good time. Highly recommended.
