Enjoy convenient pickup from your hotel in Managua, Granada or San Juan del Sur ; board a comfortable, air-conditioned tour vehicle and head for the town of Catarina, where you'll stop to see the lagoon from above.
Continue down into the crater for more views of the lagoon and the local community members. Learn about the tropical dry forest ecosystem that populates the reserve. See indigenous flora such as pochote, black rosewood, mahogany, hogplum, and guacuco, as well as a large variety of orchids. Look for animals such as variegated squirrels, opossums, anteaters, pacas, jaguarundis, howler and white-faced capuchin monkeys.
Spend time relaxing on the shore, swing in hammocks, take kayaks out into the lagoon, or exfoliate your skin with the black volcanic sand. Enjoy a traditional Nicaraguan lunch.
At the end of the day, return to Managua for drop-off at your hotel.
