I took this tour in july 2018, which is the first time it has been available on viator or really been aimed towards the foreign market. All the other passengers on the trip i took were Colombian. I hope this review helps with a bit more information about the type of tour this is. It is a fun trip provided you understand what you are signing up for, and I definitely felt like I had experienced a typical long weekend enjoyed by many paisas! The first thing you need to know is that this trip is entirely in spanish. If you do not speak any spanish this is probably not the tour for you. You will not get any of the commentary about the regions and your guide may not even speak enough english to tell you the most important information such as what time to meet and where. Do not expect there to be other europeans/ americans on the trip with you. The second important thing to know is that this is not a super cultural tour of the history and traditions of the coffee area - it is a theme park trip. The two full days spent in the region will be spent at the parque del cafe and the other park you choose or, by default, panaca. Google them. Parque del cafe has a little coffee museum and a walk where you can learn about the coffee making process, but then you will have free time to enjoy the rollercoasters, log flumes and other rides. If you enjoy amusement parks, it is really good fun. There is also a really good musical show in english as well as spanish!! With traditional songs and dances and beautiful costumes. It was also brilliant to see all the colombians in the audience singing and dancing at the start. Not to be missed. Panaca is kind of like a zoo for farm and domestic animals cows, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, cats, dogs.... You can pet them all. There are also shows throughout the day, either informing you about and showing different types of animals, or performances with the animals. If you have kids or just love animals you are bound to enjoy being up close and personal with so many animals. You can also feed some of them. Third important thing is that the eje cafetero is not that close to medellin, so you really need 4 days to make the most of it. I was picked up by an uber at 5.00am on the friday and we didn't get to salento until after 4.00pm. We then had a couple of free hours to explore the streets and the artisanal shops. This was plenty of time, save that despite it being advertised there was no time/option to visit the valle de corcora, which i was very disappointed to miss. As mentioned above, day 2 was parque del cafe and day 3 was panaca with a brief morning stop in Qimbaya. On day 4 we visited the thermal baths, which were fab and in a very beautiful setting. We set off for medellin after lunch maybe around 2.00pm and arrived back around 9.00pm. There is no chance to visit armenia or pereirra- the bus just drives past them so you get a great view and the guide talks a bit about the area. The tour operator was very diligent in getting in touch after the booking, arranging the pick up and was available for any questions. The coach was very comfortable, although bear in mind that the roads in this area were not really designed with big buses in mind! The hotel was good, with a pool available until 11.00pm and if you are travelling alone you can share a room which keeps the price for the tour very reasonable or you can pay more and opt for your own room. I had a lot of fun on this trip, and met a lot of lovely people who were all very kind and looked after me since my spanish is pretty poor!. Don't expect a lot of time to soak up the history and culture of the region. But do expect to embrace a very Colombian experience nonetheless! You'll just be experiencing a different type of Colombian culture! If you like theme parks, you'll have a blast!
