Start with a driving exploration of Chiang Mai, during which you’ll check out the city’s most important government buildings, residential neighborhoods, and its old city gate and moat.
Continue into the hills outside down as you visit Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, a temple that dates to the year 1384 and is known for its Buddha relic. Admire the great views from this 3,520-foot (1,056-meter) viewpoint and explore the temple complex’s ‘Chedi’ (Buddhist monument), all reachable after climbing the temple’s 300+ stairs.
After your temple visit proceed to the Doi Pui area, where you’ll stop by a Hmong hill tribe village. Check out the residents’ colorful clothing and feel free to bargain for a few textiles, ornaments or handicrafts during your visit. After visiting the Hmong village, you’ll receive a drop-off at your Chiang Mai hotel.

Long day and it was a private tour so he was willing to extend our trip if we wanted. Tour guide spoke English but not great. Beautiful area. Be sure to bring clothing with you if you want to go into the temple. A sorong for a woman to cover your legs and arms also. Bit of a hassle but they provide something for you to wear if you forget. Not pretty for sure so bring something with you. The village wasn't what I expected. It was more of a market. Pretty modernized. Not quite the village I was expecting.
