This tour was fantastic. We got to see all the beautiful things in Oaxaca. It was the perfect day. We especially enjoyed the local breakfast, lunch in the market, and seeing the Tule tree. Gilberto was the best guide and so hospitable. We would recommend this to anyone!

    Jocelyn_C, Nov 2025
I don’t even know where to start. The whole experience was beautiful and amazing. Beto was an amazing tour guide, very nice and so knowledgeable. Our driver that day Luis was also super friendly and we had great conversation with both of them. Hierve el agua was an unforgettable experience and Beto does amazing and getting the perfect pictures of you. The next stop to see the weavers was such a unique learning experience for us and we loved it. The rule tree is unbelievable, and the food! Oh my the food was delicious. I am so happy we booked this experience and I would definitely recommend. I have nothing but good things to say about Beto and this tour experience.

The best day of our trip
    Kelly_C, Aug 2025
We can't recommend this tour enough. Every detail was incredibly thought out & prepared. Gilberto made everything so easy, beautiful, and fun. We never had to worry about food, drink, or clean bathrooms. He truly thought of everything! The tour departs early but intentionally so -- beating the crowds to Hierve el agua is so worth it. We basically had the park to ourselves initially. Gilberto will also take the best photos of you in order to document the amazing views. We hiked for the first part & swam/relaxed afterwards. Then we traveled to Tlacolula market where we had an authentic & delicious lunch & beverages. Gilberto walked us around the market and showed us indigenous products & met some local Zapotec vendors. Next stop was a weaving cooperative where we received a weaving and natural dye demo. It was so inspiring to see the entire process and then view a studio of hundreds of beautiful rugs for sale. We purchased one but there is no pressure to do so except that they are all so gorgeous and well-made! Our final stop was Tule and visiting an approx 2000 year old cypress tree. The town's connection to this tree is also very special to witness/learn about. We got to experience so many genuinely special things & places on this tour. It will make you fall in love with Oaxaca (& Gilberto too!!) Book this tour 100 %
Wonderful Tour with the BEST Guide!
    Caarin_F, Aug 2025
We were so lucky to have found Gilberto’s tour with all of the choices out there. He is an exceptional, thoughtful guide whose mission is to provide a personal and authentic tour of Oaxaca. We started early enough that we beat the crowds to Hierve el Agua where we hiked and swam. This was followed by a real (and delicious!) Oaxacan lunch at Tlacolula market and a fantastic tour of the vendors, unusual produce, meats and insight into daily Oaxacan culture. Next we visited a beautiful textile co-op in Teotitlán where we had an in-depth demonstration of ancient natural dying techniques and weaving. There was some time to purchase the stunning rugs if you wanted (but no pressure!). Finally a visit to the magnificent tree in Tule. All in all the day was perfectly paced. Gilberto anticipated every little thing. But the best reason to take this tour is to hear from a proud Mexican the depth and breadth of his knowledge about Oaxacan culture, history, politics, and religion. Gilberto is also very generous with his recommendations about what to do in the city of Oaxaca - all fantastic recommendations. We had the most wonderful day - you will too. Book this tour!
    Unforgettable experience in Oaxaca.
    Lidia_F, Aug 2025
My family and I had an unforgettable experience exploring some of Oaxaca’s most magical places, each one rich in culture and natural beauty. Hierve el Agua offered stunning mountain views and the awe-inspiring petrified waterfalls. The mineral springs and peaceful landscape made it feel like stepping into another world. In Teotitlán del Valle, we were amazed by the traditional weaving process. The artisans’ use of natural dyes and intricate designs reflected generations of skill and creativity. At the Tlacolula market, we enjoyed fresh, authentic food and learned about local spices and medicinal plants. The lunch we had there was delicious and full of cultural flavor. The Tule Tree was truly breathtaking. This ancient, massive tree felt almost mythical, a living piece of history with its vast trunk and twisting branches. Our guide, Gilberto, made the experience even more special. He was kind, knowledgeable, and respectful of the indigenous communities we visited. I highly recommend this journey to anyone wanting to experience the heart of Oaxaca.
    Awesome experience

Great experience with a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. I appreciated the small group and all the stops we made. Best day in Oaxaca! I would highly recommend.

    Polly_P, Jul 2025
This was a fantastic tour, Gilberto was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming. He gave us loads of interesting information as well as lots of recommendations of places to go in Oaxaca. All of the stops were great, and given the right amount of time.
    Our tour with to Hierve...
    Sonia_B, Jul 2025
Our tour with to Hierve al agua was more than expected. It was a small intimate tour. Our tour guide Gilberto was exceptional. He explained everything about the history of Oaxaca and Hierve al agua and the community surrounding the area. We arrived early, before other tours got there. This was definitely a plus as we were able to take amazing pics. Our tour guide actually took a lot of pics for us as he knew the best photos ops. Our tour also included other stops coming back from Hierve al agua, which included Mercado Tlacolula and el tule. If you’re contemplating a tour, this is it. You will not regret it.
    Authentic Oaxaca Experience
    Marcia_C, Jul 2025
This was one of the best tours I have taken! Our guide, driver, and all of the people we interacted with throughout the trip exemplified the kindness, pride, and spirit of Mexican culture. A wonderful tour to get a glimpse into authentic Oaxaca life.
More than a tour—a dip into Zapotec culture
    Patricia_C, Apr 2025
What a wonderful day! Gilberto had plotted out an itinerary that was as much a rich dive into Zapotec culture and history as it was a tour of amazing landscapes and culinary tastes. The “frozen waterfalls” were awesome, as expected, and getting there early was brilliant. What we hadn’t anticipated was how rich the guided tour of the traditional market and lunch in Tlacolula would end up being. Then on the way back to Oaxaca a relaxed visit to a local weaving cooperative afforded us a hands-on lesson about carding and spinning wool and a demonstration of Zapotec dying methods—with (very welcome) no pressure to make any purchases. Throughout the day Gilberto was SO good about taking opportunities to explain what we were experiencing in terms of cultural/community significance, for which I am so grateful. To you reading this? By far one of the best...
    Beth_R, Mar 2025
By far one of the best tours we've been on while traveling. It was so well thought out and well-paced. It is well worth getting up early to get to the falls first. Our guide was so genuine, answered all our questions and shared a lot of his personal experience in Oaxaca. Logistically, the tour was so smooth. From the photo op suggestions to the lunch spot, from the clean bathroom breaks to the comfy van we toured in, everything was taken care. I highly recommend!
Must-do, Authentic and informative trip to the countryside!
    Rachel_M, Mar 2025
We traveled here for our 10 year wedding anniversary, and what a special day! Hilberto and Edgar (our guide and our driver) were super friendly, knowledgeable about the countryside, and extremely welcoming. Case in point was the unexpected road closures by protesters due to a wage strike— despite this adversity, the guide team navigated the van through back roads giving us a glimpse of the countryside, and took the opportunity to explain a little bit about Mexican society and politics in the state of Oaxaca. In the end this actually made us appreciate the experience more! Another big highlight of this tour was the fact that it left early in the morning, which allowed us to go to the petrified waterfall before anybody else was there—this was amazing and helped us avoid the heat while hiking. The included food was some of the best we had on our trip and was from authentic sources! Yet another plus was the stop at the textile factory where we got an audience-involved presentation of wool processing. Initially, I was concerned about the time amounts provided at each stop on the description were too long, but these weren’t hard start/stop times and the flexibility allowed us to spend more or less time depending on how things were going rather than feeling rushed. This is definitely a must-do tour for anyone visiting Oaxaca!! Lastly we were debating between doing tours that include mezcal plus these sites vs this tour — I would definitely recommend this tour and doing a separate mezcal experience because (as Hilberto himself also endorsed) mezcal requires a whole explanation that would not be well done if squished in with all the content of this tour. We did a separate mezcal tour which was awesome and more relaxed than trying to crush everything into one, so we felt the same way. In summary—Hilberto and Edgar are awesome and this tour was excellent, it should be a requirement if you spend more than one day in Oaxaca!!
Book now - you won’t regret it! Amazing Day!
    Danae_F, Feb 2025
This was an incredible day! We are so glad we did it! Highly recommend Gilberto’s tour. He was the most friendly, knowledgeable guide. The itinerary is extremely well thought out. You start early so that you have Hierve de Agua all to yourself. After a little hike to see every beautiful vista of the area, you have time to take a dip in the pools. They have changing rooms on site to change in and out of your bathing suit. Learning about the traditional Oaxacan wool making process was fascinating and we did end up purchasing some beautiful items from the local artisans (they take card). Lunch at the Tlacolula market was delicious and Gilberto showed us around the local market explaining items and their uses. Lastly, the Arbol del Tule is incredible and photos do not do its size justice. Book with Gilberto now, you won’t regret it!
    Hierve el Agua Rocks!!!
    Lyudmila_L, Feb 2025
My mom, sister, and I got the pleasure of having Hilberto as our tour guide at Hierve el Agua. What an absolute delight. His passion for the natural, historic, and cultural beauty permeates every word he speaks. The most delightful experience. If you get the fortune of having him as your guide, good on ya! You're in for a treat!!
    Do not miss this tour!
    Lynn_D, Feb 2025
Highly recommend this fabulous all day adventure into the rugged Mexican countryside outside of Oaxaca. Hierve de Agua was a unusual and beautiful natural wonder but the hike down (and back up) was very steep and rocky and had over 200 steps. Not for the meek or impaired. They gave us walking sticks which were needed! The guide was very patient for us slow moving vehicles! The coconut shell drink was delish at the end of the hike! The Tlalacoula market was huge and amazing and he explained a lot of the stuff you have never seen! The very smoky and busy Hall of Grilled Meats should be avoided if you are a vegetarian. The rug weaving workshop so unique and interesting and finally the Thule tree was amazing. Its a full day of Oaxacan wonders that should not be missed! The guide was the best and nicest guy - spoke great English.

Early springs tour for best photos
    Pamela_M, Jan 2025
Very informative w/ guide and small group. Visiting the springs early in am (though cold & windy) was worth the effort to take better photos. The traditional market in San Lorenzo was a way better experience than the Oaxacan market
