Your day trip starts with hotel pickup in Paris by private minivan for the 1.5-hour drive with your guide to Giverny, the location of Claude Monet’s colorful home and gardens. The Impressionist master lived here from 1883 to 1926 and painted several of his most famous works, including the series of water lilies.

When you arrive, your guide will let you explore the house and grounds on your own. See Monet’s studio, charming home and the Japanese bridge over the lily pond that you’ll recognize from some of his paintings. Then continue your Impressionist education at the Musée des Impressionnismes, home to many pieces from this renowned era of art, which began in France in the 19th century.

Head to a local restaurant, Le Moulin de Fourges, for lunch, and soak up its historical, waterside setting inside a 200-year-old mill before making the 1-hour drive to Auvers-sur-Oise. Walk through the village with your guide, learning about Vincent van Gogh’s final days here before he passed away in 1890. Hear a bit about his life, post-Impressionist works and mental illness, and then visit Auberge Ravoux, where he stayed just before his death.

Your day trip ends with the drive back to Paris for hotel drop-off.

All four of us, including my husband and two adult children, really enjoyed Giverny and the lovely lunch afterward in a beautiful setting a terrace at an old mill. However, we found Auvers-sur-Oise much less rewarding. Van Gogh's home was very hot and crowded. The guides at the home combined 2 tours 2 different Languages which forced everyone to stand in a tight, crowded, hot and uncomfortable space while the guide spoke in the other language. I would recommend doing Giverny and lunch and skipping Auvers-sur-Oise.

The tour was an exceptional experience. The gardens at Giverny were beautiful even in laet October. Seeing the church at Auvers was impressive. The guide was very knowledgable.
