Our experienced guides will show you the wonders of the natural reserve, including paddling between a mangrove canal and getting to the bioluminescent bay. Once at the bay the guides will detailed explain you the ecosystem and all the surroundings.
The full moon was out and you could hardly see the bioluminescence. Even with a tarp, you could only see little sprinkles. The kayak was nice and otherwise romantic. Also there was no shuttle provided and we payed $66 from the beach to old san juan each way.
Our tour was wonderful! Although the moon was too bright to really see the bioluminescent microorganisms, the 6:00 PM tour was perfect to kayak and see the sunset. Additionally, the tour guide had a tarp to create more darkness, and we could see the microorganisms a little bit. My friends and I didn't have any expectations going into it, so my advice is not to google pictures of what it should look like! Photoshop is a real thing, people!
The guides were so helpful, kind, and accommodating! The experience itself was gorgeous. Even though there was a big moon, we still got to see the bioluminescence, but the best part was just being out on the water in the dark. So cool.
The staff were very friendly, kept everyone together as a group, and made the tour as enjoyable and educational as possible. Wear bug spray to keep the mosquitoes away! It's surprising how bright the moon can be even when not full, so it helped when the staff used the tarp to make it darker to really see the bioluminescence. Don't expect it to be as bright as online pictures, but it's still a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Great experience! The guides made sure that those who had never been in a kayak before had an enjoyable time. We appreciated that the company made a special point of encouraging "seniors" to participate.
