Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Greet your knowledgeable guide at the atmospheric Galerias Vallarta Shopping Mall and climb aboard a comfortable minivan to journey to a bustling outdoor market. Converse with vendors as you peruse stalls laden with exotic produce and unfamiliar fruits.

Next, visit a local tortilla factory to purchase the dough needed for fresh tortillas. With bags bursting with fresh produce, journey to the house of the master chef to begin your culinary class. Depending on which day of the week it is, learn to make a delicious and distinct main course inspired by the gastronomic traditions of the region; regularly features dishes include salsa de molcajete (a smooth sauce of fresh and fiery chiles), tacos and fresh fish ceviche. If you cook mole poblano, learn about the 27-ingredient combination that composes this spectacular sauce.

Conclude your cooking with tequila and mezcal tasting session before sitting down to dine on the fruits of your labor. Converse with your companions and the chef as you enjoy the true taste of Mexico. Relax during the return journey to the tour’s original departure point.

We enjoyed the market tour to find fresh ingredients. The other participants had also been several years before and showed us pictures on their phone. We had a great time prepping ingredients and learning about the origins of the dish we preparing. I am already gone thinking of returning again. It will be a highlight of my PV trip!

This was the best experience!! Enrique, his wife and sister was so welcoming in their home and we had the best lesson. So informative and hands on. The market tour was also wonderful. I truly learned so much while having fun. There were just 4 of us and precautions were taken for COVID. I can’t recommend this tour enough!

Mexican cooking experience!

Enrique was a terrific host. Our group of 16 was driven to the local market in two vans and we enjoyed seeing an authentic Mexican market and hearing information about local foods and supplies. We left the market with our purchases and drove to Enrique's home. His wife and sister were there to help us with the cooking and preparing. Everything was well organized and very easy to accomplish. In the end, the food was tasty and the experience was top notch.

The only complaint we had was that we did not do enough cooking we paid for a cooking class and it was more just like a watching class! The people that run this program are amazing very interesting but really need to do more cooking! Maybe make smaller groups and let the people cook all of the meal make simpler meals!

We had an exceptional experience with Cookin Vallarta. Enrique was an excellent host. We enjoyed the educational part of the day. His knowledge of the history and culture of the food Increased our understanding. He took us to a local market where he explained, chose the food, educating us on what to look for to make sure we had all the freshest ingredients and then purchased the items. We very much enjoyed the day spent in his home learning more, helping to prepare the different courses, learning to make a “real” Mexican margarita and then enjoying the food. We had a wonderful time!!

Market Tour was Best Part

Class leader was excellent but actual cooking lesson was not well organized focusing on too many different things, each of which was done by a different group. Better to have had each group do fewer things. Best part of class was the market tour. Very well done and highly informative. We learned a great deal about how ingredients are selected and used. Very useful information.

My husband and I had the best time on this excursion! The next time we're in Puerto Vallarta, we'd definitely love to do it again. The food was fabulous, the lessons educational, and the made-from-scratch margaritas were the best I've ever had. Thanks for the fun day!
