Meet your private guide at your Reykavik hotel, settle inside your private, air-conditioned vehicle, and set off on your full-day tour around Iceland’s Golden Circle sights.
As you travel, admire the otherworldly scenery while learning about the country’s ancient history and volcanic geology. If you wish, let your guide know if there’s anything you want to see or more less of during the day. Your tour is private, so your itinerary can be tailored to your interests.
Drive first to the Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site of stark and epic landscapes. Stop to see the site of the world’s first parliament — where 10th-century Vikings gathered to lay down laws — and then continue to the continental rift, the valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.
Gaze out over the above ground plates as you hear about the unique geological forces that have formed the rift, and take photos of this astonishing spot.
Travel onward to the Geysir geothermal area and stroll around this intriguing area. View the bubbling hot pools, and see Strokkur, the geyser that spouts water high into the air every 10 minutes or so.
Continue to the Gulfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s most spectacular natural sights. Marvel at the power and beauty of the 105-foot (32-meter) fall as it thunders over stepped tiers of lava before moving on to the Secret Lagoon, a lovely hot spring pool, complete with a geyser that erupts every few minutes.
Enjoy a hot soak in this 120-year-old semi-natural pool as a wonderful end to your day. Then, return to Reykjavik, perhaps stopping off on route to view more beauty spots, such as the Faxi waterfall and Kerið crater. Your tour then ends with a hotel drop-off.
