Your food- and wine-tasting experience in Rome provides a delicious opportunity to gain insight into Italy’s long winemaking heritage from an industry pro—your trained sommelier guide. After meeting at a location in central Rome, head to the wine-tasting library of a nearby restaurant and wine store, where you’ll be delighted by the cozy ambience of the room lined with books and bottles of balsamic vinegar, olive oil and fine wine.

Grab your wine glass and gather around the table as your sommelier shares information about Italian wine and how it fits into the country’s beloved culture. During your tasting session, you’ll enjoy samples of six regional wine varietals, including the well-known Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Rosso di Montalcino and Barolo, considered some of Italy’s finest wines. Each wine is paired with Italian snacks like salami, ham, mozzarella cheese and bruschetta.

While you sip and eat, learn how to distinguish different flavors and aromas and how the food enhances certain aspects of the wines. Your wine knowledge continues to increase as you dive into more detail, such as how to discern if a wine is standard or complex.   • Selection of cheese including buffalo mozzarella, burrata, parmigiano and pecorino
  • Selection of cured meat including prosciutto ham, salami and capocollo (cured pork shoulder)
  • Selection of crostini (small pieces of grilled bread) including schiacciata (flatbread) with pesto, crostino toscano (crostino topped with chicken liver pâté), bruschetta with arugula and pistacchio pesto
