Step aboard the SS ‘Rotterdam,’ once one of the Netherlands’ greatest passenger liners, and get a taste of what life was like aboard this grand vessel in bygone days. Take a peek inside the captain’s quarters during a 1-hour above-deck tour, or select the 1-hour below-deck tour and descend into the belly of the ship for an insider’s look at the running of a ship. Alternatively, upgrade to enjoy both experiences with an all-inclusive, 1.5-hour tour.
  • Enjoy a guided tour of the SS Rotterdam, the Netherlands’ largest passenger liner
  • Choose between a 1-hour above-deck or below-deck visit, or a 1.5-hour exploration that combines both tours
  • Get a glimpse of life onboard the ship with a visit to the captain’s cabin, bridge, chart room and more, if option selected
  • Descend into the ship’s belly to explore the engine rooms, crew areas and replicas of original passenger rooms, if option selected
  • Enjoy unparalleled views of the city and beyond from the stern and sports decks, if option selected
  • Watch a video about the ship's voyages and be transported from Rotterdam to New York in just a few short minutes, if option selected

Make your own way to SS Rotterdam and greet your guide on the ship’s main deck. Depending on the tour you selected at booking, follow one of the three itineraries detailed below:

SS Rotterdam Tour: Above-Deck (1 hour)
Begin your tour by exploring the bow of the ship and listen to stories about the history of SS Rotterdam. Then, head to the bridge and imagine controlling the historic vessel as you place your hands on the wheel of the ship.

Admire the advanced navigational equipment before ascending to the stern and upper sports decks for spectacular views of Rotterdam. Then, venture inside the captain’s cabin to catch a glimpse of what day-to-day life was like on the ship.

After watching a short film in the Experience Center, return to deck and bid your guide farewell.

SS Rotterdam Tour: Below-Deck (1 hour)
Commence your tour by descending to the belly of the ship as you listen to stories about SS Rotterdam’s eventful history. Meander through a maze of pipes, meters and boilers as your guide recreates daily life below deck.

Then, examine equipment such as boiler holds and ship stabilizers before grasping the many levers and switches of the control panel. Conclude your tour by peeking into replicas of original passenger rooms and crew areas, and then return to the main deck.

SS Rotterdam Tour: Above- and Below-Deck (1.5 hours)
Embark on a combination of the Above-Deck and Below-Deck tour with your guide.

If hunger strikes after your tour, revitalize with snacks at one of the ship’s restaurants (own expense). In summer, you can swim in the Lido and drink a refreshing cocktail from the bar, or feast on gourmet food in he Club Room.

What a great way to repurpose a retired cruise ship! We did enjoy the tour of the inner workings of the ship, our guide was very knowledgeable. We did not however enjoy the check-in process. There are no instructions on the ticket you receive, or when you get to the ship, as to where check in is and what to do once you get there. FYI, check in for the tour is in the same line that you check in to stay in the hotel, plan to wait at least 30 minutes if there are four guests in front of you, longer if there are more. Once we did figure it out, we were given tickets and told to proceed to the area where we would receive our transponders for the self guided tour. The women working in that area were surly, not to mention we had been given the incorrect ticket due to the fact that the girls checking us in were unfamiliar with the Viator ticket, so we had to go back to the check in area, wait in line, and get a new ticket, then go back to the area with the transponders. In all we had to wait in line in the reservation area three times, and deal with the transponder women four times the fourth because they programed one of our transponders in the incorrect language. As I mentioned, we really enjoyed the technical tour of the inner workings of a ship, and the fact that the ship has been restored and repurposed, but would have a hard time recommending this tour due to the frustration we experienced.
