Why Travelers Choose This Tour

Seeing Alcatraz, Muir Woods, and Sausalito together on one tour is a rare combination.
This tour is likely to sell out! The Alcatraz daily ticket allotment regularly fills up weeks in advance, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Alcatraz admission:
Board the ferry to Alcatraz at Pier 33 on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Enjoy the scenic ride across San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island, and disembark to start your independent tour of this island prison. Put on your provided headset to listen to the award-winning audio tour, “Doing Time,” and learn about notorious criminals like Al Capone who were incarcerated here. Hear about escape attempts from 'The Rock,' and listen to commentary from former inmates and staff.

Muir Woods and Sausalito:
Cross the Golden Gate Bridge and travel north to Muir Woods National Monument for your exploration of the giant coastal redwood trees. This old-growth forest is home to some of the planet’s oldest and tallest trees, which you can admire in all their glory as you walk along shady paths.

Then head to Sausalito, a picturesque small town just north of the Golden Gate Bridge that sits between the Marin Headlands and San Francisco Bay. You have leisure time here to walk along the waterfront, maybe purchase a snack (own expense) or perhaps shop in the galleries and boutiques.

NOTE: Due to schedule limitations with Muir Woods, there is a chance that this tour will be held on two separate days. You will be informed prior if your Muir Woods visit will be held on a different day from your Alcatraz visit.

This was a tour well worth taking! We enjoyed every bit. The redwood tour is amazing, have your camera ready! Sausalito was great. The bus driver recommended a fish and chip place. We walked farther down and found a family owned deli/store. They make the BEST sandwiches!!! Great place to pick up souvenirs. The Alcatraz audio tour was outstanding! I would add this as a must do!

I like the tour. I wish I could have more time for lunch and breakfast. We were give 1 hour in sausalito along with lunch but I wish I could have had more time to explore the city and finish my lunch.

This was a very nice and informative tour all the way through. The coach bus was very comfortable to travel in. The driver was very interactive, narrated a lot of interesting historical events of the specific sites we seen and shared a lot of the history of the San Francisco and surrounding area on how it came to be. I was amazed on how well the driver could narrate while driving some of most busiest streets in SF and scenic terrain while enroute to Muir Woods. True talent!! Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge was so nice and scenic. We went in first week in October and the weather was amazing. Make sure you have a sweater or fall coat for boat ride to Alcatraz. Alcatraz was absolutely amazing, so much history and detail and would take that tour again for sure. A perfect combination of sites to see if you have 9 hours to spare. Worth every penny spent

Excellent day. Muir Woods is very calming and peaceful and Sausalito is well worth a visit. The trip is well organised and Alcatraz is a must but is the complete opposite to Muir Woods and for that reason it makes the day even more worthwhile. Although there is a time limit on Muir Woods and Sausalito you can spend as much time on Alcatraz as you like.

This trip is a good way to check off your list of things to see and do. Muir Woods is fascinating. You feel like you've been transported into another universe and you're this tiny person among the giant trees. Take an hour to do a loop across bridge four and then walk along the other side of the creek on the way back toward the visitor center. No matter how many pictures you take, the size of the tree isn't captured unless you have a person standing next to it. So don't just take pics of the trees, get some with you or your party in with the trees in the background. Sausalito was lovely, but this is my only complaint on this trip - an hour just isn't long enough. We only had time to grab a bite to eat. It looks like there were some nice stores to shop in, but unfortunately, an hour didn't leave enough time. Alcatraz is just a cool thing to see. We did the audio tour of the cells. If you've ever seen Clint Eastwood in the movie "Escape from Alcatraz", you won't want to miss this. Also, rumor has it that they are closing this tour down so get into see it while you can. It's a short ferry ride and they have numerous trips going back and forth - about every half hour. We opted not to walk around the Island because we had other things on our list. So we checked this one off after we did the audio tour. If I had more time, I would have walked around the island or checked out the guards quarters, etc.

Loved, loved, loved the Muir woods trip, could have spent a lot more time there. Did not enjoy Sausalito, had 45 min to eat in a very expensive place where we didn't have enough time to see anything. Would have rather had extra hour or so in the Muir Woods! Fascinated with Alcatraz, it was well done. Easy to get tickets and well organized.
