This San Francisco coastal walking tour begins at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, which offers one of the best views of San Francisco Bay and the city’s stunning skyline (that is, when Karl the Fog hasn’t rolled into town). Here, meet your guide, who gives you some background on the bridge’s interesting history and points out its notable features.
Once you’ve gotten to know each other, set off on a leisurely hike along the city’s Pacific coastline, strolling a trail along oceanside cliffs that look across to the Marin Headlands and provide incredible sweeping views around every turn.
Soon reach Baker Beach, where you want to have your camera ready for a postcard-worthy shot of the Golden Gate Bridge. Perhaps chat with some fisherman before continuing on to Sea Cliff, an illustrious neighborhood brimming with mansions and of course, more stunning sea views—especially from spots such as Eagle’s Point, a lovely hilltop overlook.
Eventually, work your way down to the Sutro Baths at Land’s End, which have quite an intriguing story. These oceanside ruins are all that remain of the once-grand swimming pool complex built by former San Francisco Mayor Adolph Sutro in 1896. It burned to the ground in 1966.
