Meet your small group of 12 people and your food-loving guide on Sunday afternoon at the Alembic, one of Haight-Ashbury's best bars. Here, you'll get an introduction to the area, which was the epicenter of the hippie movement in the 1960s and is now a vibrant center of culinary culture in the city. This tour was curated by noted food writer Virginia Miller, and allows locals and visitors alike to look at this neighborhood through a foodie's eyes.

Take to the streets with your group, covering about 1 mile (2km) on mostly level ground between stops for an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. Meet chefs, bartenders and restaurant owners for a behind-the-scenes experience and a chance to ask questions.

Taste the off-menu tacos from the popular Bacon Bacon food truck, then visit Second Act Marketplace to see the garden where ingredients for the Alembic's artisanal cocktails are sourced. Check out Anda Piroshki, where you'll enjoy a demonstration of how these stuffed savory pastries are made and taste the results. Then stroll up to the Ice Cream Bar in Cole Valley for a traditional Root Beer Float or a decadent Guinness Beer Float made by one of the 1930s-style expert soda jerks.

You'll walk away from your 2- to 3-hour tour with a culinary map, which makes it easy to revisit any of your favorite locations.
