Uncover secrets of daily life and folkloric legend in San Jose with this captivating evening tour. Connect with your guide at the historic Central Market, a covered maze of produce stalls and specialty food vendors dating back more than 120 years. Your guide will show you staples of Costa Rican home cooking, as well as medicinal herbs and traditional handicrafts.

Your tour continues with a walk through San Jose’s historic streets to view architectural highlights in the glow of twilight. Visit Culture Plaza and its crown jewel, the magnificent National Theater. Inspired by the ornate opera houses of Europe, the Neoclassical theater dates back to 1897 and is home to a handful of Costa Rica’s elite performing arts companies.

Stroll through Spain Park to view the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which boasts ties to Andrew Carnegie. You’ll also see the National Distillery and the striking metallic building at Morazán Park, constructed atop swamps in the 1800s. Finish your walk at a local artisan market inside the beautiful National Park, where you’ll have the opportunity to purchase handmade souvenirs. You will continue your walk to Paseo de la Luz, an area on the east side of San Jose that’s well known for its gastronomy.

Board a vehicle for the short drive to Paseo de la Luz, the east side of San Jose well known for its gastronomy. Along the way, learn why Escazú is called the ‘City of Witches’ and hear folktales of supernatural happenings in the area.

Properly spooked, settle into an acclaimed restaurant in Paseo de la Luz for a gourmet, 3-course meal. Savor expertly prepared Costa Rican specialties with a Mediterranean twist, paired with South American wine. (See a sample menu in the Itinerary below.)

Once you polish off dessert, your tour officially ends.

Interesting tour, nice guide, but the restaurant wasn't the most COVID safe

Pros - Tour guide was very sweet and engaging! She shared a lot of interesting information about major landmarks and shops in the market - The dinner was delicious - Guide made sure everyone got home safely, helping with Ubers, cabs, etc. Cons - Similar to other reviews, the waiter at dinner tried to only provide 2 glasses of wine and had to be asked for the 3rd; the pours were not generous - The restaurant wasn't as COVID safe as I would have liked. We sat at an 8 person table, indoors with a small window open for air flow.

Erick's knowledge and experience were excellent. The market tour, the streets, the people, history, etc. The restaurant and dinner were gourmet: a much more significant experience than we were expecting and memorable.

Book this if you haven't been to Costa Rica before. Our guide Angel was indeed an angel. He is a wealth of information. Very charasmatic. The walking tour was truly informative, I didn't retain as much info as I would have liked 😊 I did learn a lot more about their heritage . The chocolate and wine was heaven. The dinner was extremely delicious. Well done Angel. I used this tour company for two different tours, they are on time and. It is well organized. Thank you!

We almost missed the evening due to some confusion on meet up location but the organizers found us and we are so glad they did. Gladys was our guide and filled the tour with interesting information and funny anecdotes. We soon had the additional pleasure of meeting Cristy when she found our tour. After a couple of hours, we caught up with Eric’s tour group and enjoyed learning about chocolate (with samples and good wine) with more interesting people. We then strolled on to enjoy an incredible Dinner at Gothnejo Fishy. The evening was a wonderful first night in San Jose. We highly recommend it!

Loved this night. The tour was delightful and educational and the food was absolutely incredible. My only small complaint is the wine pours were like sample sized but when I raised the concern it was addressed.
