Visit Iceland’s Golden Circle sights and learn how its geothermal activity is used to generate energy on this 8-hour tour from Reykjavik. Discover how some of the country’s sustainable power is produced at the Hellisheiðarvirkjun geothermal plant, and see the three Golden Circle landmarks of Thingvellir National Park, Geyser, and Gullfoss waterfall. Plus, take in other scenic wonders, including Faxi waterfall. Air-conditioned transport and a break for lunch (own expense) included.
  • Golden Circle and green energy day trip from Reykjavik
  • Learn about Iceland’s sustainable energy at Hellisheiðarvirkjun geothermal plant
  • See the Faxi waterfall and Kerio's multi-colored volcanic crater
  • Visit the Geysir geothermal area and watch the Strokkur geyser erupt
  • View the Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellir’s historical parliament site and tectonic rift
  • Hellisheiðarvirkjun and Kerio entrance fees included, with lunch at own expense
  • Air-conditioned minibus transport, with hotel pickup and drop-off near your hotel in Reykjavik
  • Comprehensive tour by minibus
After pickup from your Reykjavik hotel, settle inside a climate-controlled minibus with your guide. Then, gaze at Iceland’s lava plains, mountains, and pastures as you leave Reykjavik for the Golden Circle.
For starters, visit the vast Hellisheiðarvirkjun geothermal plant, a power station that harnesses Iceland’s geothermal energy to produce sustainable electricity. Take a tour of the geothermal exhibition to see how the plant turbines work and learn about green energy via the multimedia presentations.
Stop to see the volcanic crater lake at Kerið, and then continue to the Faxi waterfall, a beautiful cascade complete with a man-made fish ladder. With luck, watch salmon jumping up through the ladder, and then tour the best-known Golden Circle sights, with a break for lunch (own expense) on route.
See the hot pools of the steaming Geysir geothermal field, and watch its Strokkur geyser erupt up to 65.6 feet (20 meters) in the air. Then, admire the Gullfoss waterfall before driving into UNESCO-listed Thingvellir Park. Check out the site of Iceland’s 10th-century parliaments, and stop at the tectonic rift, where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia face each other.
Your tour then finishes with a drop-off near your Reykjavik hotel.

The tour itself is provides a good overview of interesting terrain, with extensive information provided by the driver regarding historical factors that led to what we are looking at. I really enjoyed the green energy plant and the explanation provided by the guide. Our rating is one star lower than the trip itself warrants because our mini-bus broke down and stranded us on the side of a very busy highway. The tour company did all the could and arrived in about 45 minutes with a substitute bus, but that made the tour hurried because 6 people had a 5:00 commitment that had to be met. Also, the seat belts in the back of the bus only sort of worked. On the whole, I am glad we did the tour.

Had the best tour. The bus got us right on time and we had ample time there to check out the area. Highly recommended!

When I choose this tour, I find it includes many places to visit. Although there are only 2 reviews when I booked the tour, I am happy I have chosen this tour to join finally. A funny tour guide and he bring us to many attractions! We really enjoy and think the tour is very value for money!

Anna was a phenomenal tour guide and the stops were just breath taking! Thank you for the fantastic day!

Our trip was somewhat complicated by a blizzard hitting at the last stop and closing roads and making for an exciting snowy and windy ride home on a long alternative route... but that adversity highlighted the excellence of the guide, Pieter. Not enough characters left to praise him properly!
