Phang Nga Bay lies within Ao Phang Nga National Park, a protected area that is home to diverse land and sea animals as well as lush plant life. Get away from the crowds to explore the bay with experienced local guides who take you to pristine places that most visitors don't see.
Start off in the late morning with pickup and transfer from your Phuket hotel. Ride in an air-conditioned minivan to the pier where your motorboat awaits, then enjoy a light lunch as you glide across the bay to your first destination. When you arrive, receive a short safety briefing then transfer into a sturdy inflatable kayak that is piloted by your guide and seats one or two people.
Your guide paddles your kayak into the sea caves, known as hongs (rooms) in Thai. Listen to informative commentary about the rock formations and hidden lagoons that you discover and learn about the flora and fauna of the region. Visit several spots in the marine park, and enjoy time to rest and snack on the motorboat in between expeditions into the caves. Keep your eyes alert for wildlife such as macaques, water monitors, kingfishers, mudskippers, egrets, sea eagles and brahminy kites.
Watch the sunset from the water as the day winds down. Your guide then explains the Thai holiday Loi Kratong, when people create small floating bowls (kratong) made from banana leaves and decorated with flowers and candles. Make one of your own, and set it afloat on the water.
While you make your way back toward the shore, feast on a buffet Thai dinner cooked on the boat by the crew, who shop daily for high-quality fresh ingredients. Return to the pier two hours after sunset and transfer by minivan back to your hotel.
