Stop At: Fiordland National Park (Te Wahipounamu), Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre, Te Anau, Fiordland National Park New Zealand

After departing Te Anau, the scenery really begins as you are driven along Lake Te Anau, the largest lake in the South Island. Upon entering the Fiordland National Park, travel alongside the Eglington River to three mountain lakes at the head of the Eglington Valley. You will make the fist of our many sightseeing stops that also allow for some great photo opportunities and you have a couple of different locations for lunch and will endeavor to select the best spot on the day. There are some fantastic walks in the area and this is a great opportunity to experience the beautiful alpine beech forest up close.
After lunch you head towards the Homer Tunnel, taking in some incredible mountain views while driving along side the crystal clear waters of the Hollyford river. You will make some great scenic stops along this stretch of the road, at his time of day there are few other buses on the road. Once through the Homer Tunnel, you will wind our way down the Cleddau Valley. At this time you arrive in an area called Fiordland but are visiting a "Sound", the difference will be explained.
You link up with a scenic cruise for a 1.45 hour excursion on the fjord.
The barbecue lunch includes a classic Kiwi BBQ of marinated lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs and sausages, a good range of salads, fresh bread and fruit juice.

This trip was exceptional. We had a small group with a guide called Graham. There are not enough superlatives to describe him. He was knowledgeable, witty, organised, friendly and chose great places to stop. We did the BBQ tour and lunch was outstanding. Obviously, the weather was in our favour, with complete sunshine and shorts the order of the day. Milford Sound was breathtaking, and the boat was not too crowded. Getting picked up from Te Anu was easy and communication prompt. I highly recommend this trip it will be one to remember.

It was an amazing trip. The drivers was so funny and interesting. You really felt you were taken care of. So impressed. I would never book any other tour except with Viator as the three tours I took in NZ and the 1 in Australia last year were so great. Good job Viator for picking great people to deliver your tours.

We have a smooth ride from Te Anua to Milford Sound. The driver-cum-guide provided us with useful commentaries on interesting scenic spots along the way. It was a memorable experience. The BBQ lunch was superb. It was marvellous that our guide could whip up so much goodies within a short time. The weather had also been kind to us and we had a wonderful time on the top deck of the cruise ship - taking in nature's wonders, enjoying the sights around us and breathing in the crisp, fresh air. Our decision to sign for this tour has proven to be a good one.

A great day out 8 of us on the bus plus Nick the Driver/Guide and Chef who was very informative and made the trip very enjoyable both the weather and the barbie were excellent, with only eight of us having to get on and off at the various stops rather than a coach load made a massive difference.

This was a great day trip, even though the weather (typically for Fiordland) was damp and rainy. Nick produced a great barbecue at a time when the rain had stopped, and the whole day went very well. The rain made Milford Sound very dramatic, and the waterfalls were amazing. We met some keas at the Homer Tunnel, and also a weka. I would heartily recommend this BBQ Bus tour.

What a great day. Chris the driver was excellent. Stopped en route at great places to take pictures.and gave an excellent commentary on history and local facts. BBQ was fantastic and he even supplied sun bloc and insect repellent if required. Excellent value for money, highly recommended.
