Bat was a great guide. He helped us see the horses up pretty close. Gave excellent information about Mongolia and the park. Food at Mongol family site was great as was meeting "grandma" the matron of the camp.

My friend and I decided, at short notice, to take a day trip to the Hustai National Park to try and see the Przewalski horses.
We suggested a pick up point in UB and were impressed with the punctuality and efficiency of our Guide Baat. We headed west out of UB towards Hustai and picked up a picnic lunch during a petrol stop. During the drive our guide, who spoke excellent English, was a constant source of information on the various buildings and districts which we went through. We stopped at an Ovoo and Shaman statue on the side of the road and left an offering of peeled and segmented tangerine. When we arrived at Hustai we watched a short film introduction the park and its wildlife. Baat warned us that seeing the horses was a chancy business. After about 30 minutes driving He spotted a group high up on the face of the mountain but they were so far away that we couldn't be sure. We stopped for lunch and while we were eating he spotted another group. This time we could see them clearly and got some photos with our long lenses. As we drove back Baat was constantly watching the sides of the valley and found us a much closer group at maybe 600 yards. A stallion , three mares and three foals who were moving down the mountain towards a water source close by where we had stopped We stayed very still by the jeep and watched them drink. The stallion then lead the group across the road about 50 yards away from us and up the opposite side of the valley. As we turned to get back in our jeep we spotted a group of 50 to 60 Red Deer hinds crossing the road ahead of us. We could see the reason for their disturbance - 2 Red stags on the other side watching them but the season was just too early for the hinds to be interested in them. We drove back towards the gates and spotted on the way, close to the road, 7 marmots, 2 foxes ,1 ground squirrel and an animal like a weasel. The only animals we didn't see were the nocturnals - Lynx and wild Boar which we didn't expect to see anyway.

Baat, who is a very steady and safe driver, then drove us back to UB and left us back to our apartment.

I have been on many day trips in my life. This day was one of the most successful I have ever had - everything dropping into place like a film script - An unforgettable experience.

We were delighted by the tour and everything seemed

This tour was not at all as described, I would highly advise against booking this and hiring your own driver at a lower cost. This was disorganized we spent time out in the park doing nothing no able to hike almost running out of water. The driver drove extremely fast on unsuitable roads. Donot book

I must say I was disappointed having seen other reviews and what people experienced:
1. We did not have an English speaking guide so had now idea what was happening next or get any information about the park, its' history or the conservation program.
2. We did not enter the park through the normal entrance so did not see the museum or visitor centre.
3. Our driver did not seem to know where to go within the main part of the park,. We were too have lunch with a local family but went to a few different places before we found the right one over half an hour later.
4. The wild horses were no grazing freely. Fortunately our driver sighted them, but we had to walk about 25 minutes to get a glimpse of a group grazing away in the distant hills.
Other than that enjoyed the rolling country side.

Great tour! Not too much driving, lots of great walks and great views of wild horses. Lunch with a local family in a ger (vegetarian option possible).

It was a wonderful trip to Hustai National Park seeing the Przewalski horses real close in front of us. We were lucky to find the horses in less than an hour! Our tour guide is very knowledgeable and experienced.

Hustai National Park is a great day trip from UB. The little museum and movie at the visitor center are worth a stop as it gives interesting information and details about the park, the history of the re-introduction of the Takhi horses, aka the Przewalski horses. We were lucky to see the horses almost right from the start of our drive as several of them were high in the hills by the road. We hiked up to see them and got relatively close - given these are wild animals! We found more of them later on as we hiked another hill searching for them. That time there were further away but a bigger group. Still lovely to see these unique horses in their natural environment. Even if you are not a horse lover like I am, this is a nice park to discover.

I had a wonderful day traveling to Hustai Park with Baatu. He was an excellent guide who was very dedicated to finding the often elusive horses and he did not disappoint! At the very end of the day he climbed a mountain, found them and had us walk up to see them. Really wonderful.

People who take this tour should be aware that there is a lot of off-roading involved. I was very happy with that but some might not like it. We also had a very enjoyable lunch at a local Ger. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants a day trip outside of UB in the middle of nowhere. Hustai is much less frequented than Terelj which is what I wanted...but still wanted to spend the night back in UB.
