This small group walking tour will start in Campo san Geremia in Venice with a visit to an artisanal coffee house where coffee beans are roasted on spot and several espresso blends are offered to public together with home made biscuits and more delicacies. You will taste some espresso at your choice and learn about the different qualities.
The tour then moves on to the workshop of Roberto Comin, a real Geppetto: marionettes in his place become works of art. With the help of his sister that makes the costumes, Roberto builds all the marionettes and puppets and enthusiastically introduces you to the role of marionette theatre in the 18th century when imagination and satire intertwined meaningfully.
You will then visit the Palace of the Querini Stampalia family. There you will feel in an ancient house of a Venetian patrician family. Original furniture, Murano chandeliers, mirrors, a great painting collection, clocks and a poetical garden will sorround you while the history of porcelain will be illustrated to understand how and in which occasions coffee and chocolate would be tasted at the time of the Carnival and in the art of seduction Giacomo Casanova was particularly known for. Eventually you will sit at the Florian Café in st Mark’s square to enjoy chocolate ice cream. Cafes in the 18th and 19th century were very important for the society of the time: meeting points where the art of journalism developed, where revolutionary ideas would be discussed and where the social role of women would be born and contrasted.
