This small group tour starts on the island of Murano at the entrance of the Glass museum. Hosted in a beautiful ancient palace and surrounded by a peaceful garden, the museum is a must for anyone interested and curious to learn how a tiny island became world wide known for the glass industry.
The art of glass blowers is well displayed as it developed and changed throughout the centuries, following the changing taste of an international clientèle and showing how research and inventiveness were continuously injecting fuel to increase profits. After visiting the museum you will discover the island’s hidden jewels, such as the church of St Mary and St Donato, with its marble floor and the mosaics in glass and gold leaf of the main apsis. You will then on foot cross the Grand Canal of the island of Murano passing by some shops.
Eventually you will reach and visit one of the glass factories with its showroom run by one of the most famous families of the glass industry, where you can see the actual work of glass blowers today. The actual production focusing on vases, goblets, chandeliers is designed both with an eye to the tradition and a modern touch.
The tour will end on the island, where you can then stop by, explore the shopping streets on your own.
