Your tour begins with an 8am pickup from your Xiamen hotel by private vehicle and an around 3.5-hour journey to Yongding. Along the way, admire the magnificent rural scenery of Fujian province and listen as your guide recounts the fascinating history of the Tulou villages. Learn about the unique Tulou – more than 46 multi-story earthen houses or ‘castles’ that date back to the 15th-century and were built by the Hakka people.
Admire the UNESCO-listed wonders for yourself as you arrive at the Chuxi Tulou cluster, home to some of the region’s most unique and picturesque Tulou. Accompanied by your private guide, explore the buildings, which include the typical round-style Jiqing Lou, which dates back to the Ming Dynasty; Shanqing Lou, one of the most recent buildings, dating back to 1979; and the rectangle-shaped Shengqing Lou with its two concentric squares.
Another 30-minute drive brings you to the Nanxi Tulou Cluster, where the ash-black cap-roofed Tulou buildings look even more striking, set amid a landscapes of verdant mountains and lush rice paddies. Spend time exploring Fuzhen Lou and Yanxiang Lou, before setting out on the return journey.
On return to Xiamen, your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.
