York Ghost Tour
, Jun 2019
Excellent tour for those looking for more than the typical ghost tour. The stories are based on factual information and extremely interesting. My husband was not feeling well and did not want to go but after the tour he was very happy he sucked it up and went.
ps we went to the Valhalla Bar the next day ... great recommencement.
My husband and I absolutely loved this tour. John was fabulous and certainly knows his history of York. We enjoyed the fact that this was more of an historical tour with ghost stories woven in, rather than the other way around. To get a spookier experience we started the tour later 9:00 and ended at an old cemetery, on an empty street, in the dark -- that was as spooky as I wanted it to be I'm a scaredy-cat!
I highly recommend this tour.
I purchased this tour as a surprise for my wife's birthday. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. John was a font of all knowledge about York's history and bloody murky past. Thank you so much John for making our trip memorable, we did indeed find Dick Turpin's grave. Walking through a graveyard just before midnight will be something we won't forget!
John our guide was fantastic, really knowledgeable and credible and happy to personalise the tour for you should you wish. We were just happy to follow his lead and soak up the wonderful ghost stories and the history behind them and the city. Great fun! Cheers John!
I would give this more stars if I could. It is a spendy tour, but it was worth the money. Unlike the other tours we had been on, this was very factual about events that happened and if appropriate, the current interactions that followed. Our guide, John, was very knowledgeable and tailored the tour to us. We went a lot of areas that the others didn't. We were taking the train back to Liverpool that evening and he even walked us back to the train station. If you are wanting an authentic, historical tour - this is the one to take.
The ghost tour exceeded my expectations. I thought it would be just a bit of fun, but it was far more than that. John is a true expert. He is so passionate and knowledgeable about York's history - everything is well-researched, and doesn't feel forced or scripted - in fact, I had the feeling that he could have carried on for several more hours and still not covered everything he knows about the history of York and its wider significance. He delivers it all in an interesting way, with the right mix of serious discussion and fascinating stories, to satisfy both your curiosity and your imagination!
We took his tour the night of our arrival into York and it absolutely made the trip, as we then went around everything in the daytime the next day with a proper appreciation of what we were seeing. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. It's the best tour either me or my boyfriend have ever been on, anywhere.
Everyone on our tour enjoyed it a great deal. Our guide was John and his knowledge of history was unbelievable. My kids, our mothers, and my husband and I all thought he did a great job of keeping everyone engaged. The only thing I'd say could be improved is to have a few more ghost stories in the mix of stories there were really only a handful. That being said, it was a great experience.
We met John and had a long and informative Ghost and History walk of York. I know it says ghost tour, but John knows a lot of York history. We walked for 3 hours and it seemed fast except for my tired feet. You won't be disappointed with this tour
