Your York Super Saver takes place over two days. Overnight accommodation, meals and entrance fees to attractions are payable at your own expense.
Day 1: North York Moor and Whitby Day Trip (8.5 hours)
Meet your guide near York Minster, and travel out of the city through the Vale of York. Your first stop is the Kilburn White Horse, an eye-catching chalk horse caved into the hillside. Hear its history as you take photos, and then continue to the quintessential market town of Helmsley. Enjoy free time to admire centuries-old Helmsley Castle, browse the shops or sample a Yorkshire brew.
Then continue to Whitby, one of the northeast’s most beloved seaside towns. Listen to fun historical facts from your guide and get tips for places to check out during three hours of free time. Perhaps visit Whitby Abbey, a site said to inspire Bram Stokers Dracula, or explore the Captain Cook Museum. If you’re ready for lunch, treat yourself to a Whitby special of fish ‘n’ chips.
In the afternoon, head to Goathland, a village better known as ‘Aidensfield,’ which featured in the UK TV series Heartbeat. You’ll also see Goathland Station, a site that starred as Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter films. Finally, relax on your return to York.
Day 2: Yorkshire Dales Day Trip (9 hours)
Head north and enjoy your first stop of the day at a vantage point overlooking Wensleydale. The famously scenic valley sits in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Listen to tales about Bolton Castle, the dale's best-known landmark, before you continue to nearby Aysgarth Falls. Walk along the three main falls to see where scenes from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves were filmed, or relax with a brew as you enjoy the views.
From the falls, take the scenic route to Hawes, one of England’s highest market towns. Again, how you spend your time is up to you. See local cheese made at the Wensleydale Creamery, visit the Dales Countryside Museum or take time to amble the streets and shops of the town.
Later, venture into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales to visit Arncliffe village, home of the Falcon Inn (or the ‘Woolpack’ pub). Take a walking tour around the village, or enjoy a meal in the inn, if you wish. Return to York via Plately Bridge and satisfy your sweet tooth with a visit to the Oldest Sweet Shop in the World. Your Super Saver experience then ends with a drop-off at the start point.
