In 2010, Ireland’s most beloved potato chip brand—Tayto—opened this chip-themed amusement park, Tayto Park, which fast became one of the country’s most-visited attractions. The park features more than 100 family-friendly diversions, including roller coasters, ziplines, a climbing wall, 5D cinema, and a zoo housing everything from tigers to alpacas.
Visitors to Tayto Park can opt to pay for entry only, which includes a free self-guided Tayto factory tour, and access to the theme park itself, as well as to the zoo, the steam train express, the playgrounds, the Ice Age and Dinosaurs Alive areas, and the vortex tunnels, among other attractions. Once inside, visitors can then purchase tokens at kiosks throughout the park to pay for other roller coasters, rides, and activities.
If you plan on trying out a good few rides and activities, opt for entry with unlimited attractions, which means you can enjoy unlimited use of all the rides within the park.
Tayto Park is a must for families, with lots of kid-friendly attractions.
Height restrictions apply for some of the park’s rides; check ahead to see if your little ones meet the minimum requirements.
Free Wi-Fi is available at the park.
The park is wheelchair accessible.
Most of the activities here are outdoors so depending on the weather, you may need rain gear, or sunscreen and a hat.
Tayto Park is situated in Kilbrew, County Meath, about a 35-minute drive from Dublin city center. To get here from Dublin, ride Bus Eireann 103 bus from Beresford Place beside Liberty Hall to the Tayto Park stop.
Tayto Park is busiest during July and August. Midweek is typically less busy and you’re likely to spend less time waiting in queues. To see the factory in action, go on a weekday as there is no production on Saturdays, Sundays, or bank holidays.
For thrill-seekers, the Cú Chulainn Coaster—Europe’s largest inverted wooden roller coaster—is an absolute must, as is the spinning Power Surge, and the stomach-churning Air Race. The 5D cinema delivers an interactive virtual experience, using water, air gusts, lights, and leg ticklers to make the show feel real. Fans of Tayto’s mascot, Mr. Tayto, can meet the dapperly dressed potato near the factory at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm.
