The Netherlands has been a bicycle country for centuries and even though many people drive a car, the bicycle is the most popular and efficient mode to travel in a city. The government has made sure that separate bicycle paths are created along most of the roads to make your bicycle ride smooth and safe. As a result, more than 60% of the trips in the city center of Groningen are made by a bicycle!
Exploring the city on a bike gives you the opportunity to cover bigger distances and see how city life outside of the main tourist attractions in the city center. Highlights of the tour can include the Noorderplantsoen park, the lake Paterswoldsemeer, the windmill of Noordermolen and the modern Europapark district.
Expedition North was founded in 2020. It is a small company that loves to help visitors explore the best parts of the Northern Netherlands. While most visitors go to Amsterdam or the Hague, we help you to find the hidden gems of the Northern Netherlands that are largely undiscovered by tourism.
We combine our knowledge of local history and geography with our teaching and story telling skills to help you discover the North.
The tour includes

- explanation of current developments
- a visit to the University building
- a visit to the Hoge and Lage der Aa canals
- walk along the Aa Church, Martini Church and the St Joseph Catheral
- a visit to the Forum Groningen building (including roof view)
- a visit to the Martini kerkhof square, Fish market and Grote Markt
- optional visit to small historical courtyards such as the Pepergasthuis.
