1000 Steps Tour

The beach of 1000 Steps thanks its name to the limestone stairs you have to descent to get there. Though the name might sound a bit intimidating, the stairs only exists of about 67 steps. When getting yourself up after a sunny day on this peaceful beach though, it might feel like a thousand, which would explain the name. The site exists of white sand and bleached chunks of coral, and the cove is surrounded by limestone cliffs. It's great for both diving and snorkeling as turtles are often found in the shallow, turquoise waters. In the meantime that we will be driving, we will be also talking about the history of the Island, culture, and food. Our stop will be at the 1000 Steps where you will be able to step out of the van/ car or pickup, walk around and take some pictures of the beautiful scenery of the clear blue ocean and possibly some turtle.

Local Native Guide Tour Mangrove/Flamingos

Mangroves are nature's way of building land mass. On Bonaire, the mangrove area at Lac, for generations, has been the island incubator for the various species of fish that thrive in Bonaire's water. The remnants of the old trees can still be seen. The fisherman recognized the importance of mangroves to the eco-system. They used to ply the canopied waterways in their boats, fishing and harvesting mangrove twigs. They used the long, pliable sticks to make mats, window coverings and other useful items. This was done by slicing the twigs into long pieces and weaving them into the desired items. Now that the mangroves are protected and the old fishermen have passed on, this art has been lost. Today the mangroves are used as a recreation area.Want to learn about Bonaire’s history and culture? Step in our air-conditioned van/ car or pickup with our native tour guide and explore the great scenery and history off the Island.

Local Native Guided Tour, Rincon Visit

Rincon Village is the oldest village on Bonaire. Additionally, it is the oldest in continual existence within the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. Originally settled by the Spanish in the early 1500’s, Rincon was strategically nestled within a valley to ward off impending danger from pirates and other threats. Slaves were brought to Bonaire and worked tending crops and in the salt pans. Slaves lived in Rincon and walked to the salt pans in the south to work, and stayed there for the work week. They returned to Rincon to gather supplies at Mangazina di Rei (King’s store house), and family visits before heading back to the salt pans. In Rincon we will be visiting the Magazine di Rei (King's store house) and then the Kadushi distillery (where you will be able to taste the local cactus liquor made on Bonaire. After visiting Kadushi we will be stopping at Local Restaurant called Posada. Here will be our last stop and you can enjoy a local food made by local people living on the Island.
