A tranquil alternative to Bodrum and Fethiye on the cusp of the Bozburun Peninsula, Marmaris is fast earning itself a reputation as one of the Turquoise Coast’s liveliest destinations. Whether you want to cruise along the coast, lounge on the beach or sip cocktails into the early hours, here are a few suggestions for how to spend three days in Marmaris.
Day 1: Take a walking tour
Marmaris is better known for its postcard-worthy views than its abundance of tourist attractions, but there’s still plenty to see on a walking tour of the city. Start with a visit to the hilltop Marmaris Castle, where you can explore the onsite Archaeology Museum and enjoy expansive views across the harbor and along the coast. Then admire the glitzy yachts on a stroll through the atmospheric Marmaris Marina. The fun doesn’t have to stop after the sun sets either – Marmaris’ nightlife is well known, so head to the aptly named Bar Street to check out the after-hours entertainment.
Day 2: Hit the beach
With its balmy Mediterranean climate and waters ideal for swimming, you can’t visit Marmaris without taking a dip in the ocean. The town’s main beach is always buzzing with people, but the supreme beaches lie a little further along the coast. Head for the white sands of İçmeler Beach; discover secret swimming and snorkeling spots on a boat cruise around Marmaris Bay; take a day trip to the idyllic Cleopatra Island; or brave the high-speed water flumes and near-vertical slides at the AquaDream Waterpark.
Day 3: Spend a day at Dalyan
Take a day tour down the coast and explore the Dalyan River delta, best known for its rare population of loggerhead turtles. Additional highlights in the area include the hilltop ruins of ancient Kaunos, which include a series of rock-carved tombs high above the riverside, the opportunities for hiking around the idyllic Lake Köyceğiz and the delta’s natural hot springs and mineral-rich mud baths.
