Trapiche Winery (Bodega Trapiche)
With a history dating back to 1883, Trapiche Winery (Bodega Trapiche) is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the Mendoza wine region. Along with its award-winning malbecs—exported to more than 40 countries around the world—the winery produces a wide variety of wines including sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, syrah, and chardonnay.

The Basics
Wine lovers can visit the Trapiche Winery (Bodega Trapiche), walk the vineyards, and learn about the winemaking process on a behind-the-scenes guided tour. Afterwards, head to the wine cellar, where expert-led tastings will introduce you to a variety of Trapiche wines, or dine at the winery restaurant and enjoy traditional Argentine cuisine paired with red and white wines. Wine-tasting tours from Mendoza often combine a visit to Trapiche Winery with other regional wineries such as SinFin or Bodega Zuccardi.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • The legal drinking age in Argentina is 18.
  • Advance booking is required for winery tours and tastings, which are conducted in both Spanish and English.
  • The winery’s Espacio Trapiche restaurant serves lunch and dinner, with wine included.

How to Get There
Trapiche Winery (Bodega Trapiche) is located in the Maipu wine region, around 11 miles (18 kilometers) from Mendoza or about a 30-minute drive. There is no public transport to the winery, but hop-on hop-off wine-tasting buses stop right outside.

When to Get There
The winery is open daily, with slightly reduced hours on weekends. Although wine tours are possible year-round, the most pleasant time to explore the vineyards is in spring and summer, from October through March.

Exploring the Mendoza Wine Region
Located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, Mendoza is Argentina’s largest wine-producing region and boasts more than 1,500 wineries. There are three main appellations—Lujan de Cuyo, Valle de Uco, and Maipu Valley—which produce red wines such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and syrah as well as white wine varieties including chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, and riesling. The region is most famous for its malbec, a fruity, full-bodied wine made from purple grapes brought over from France in the 19th century. Argentina is the largest producer of malbec in the world, and Trapiche Winery is the single largest exporter.
