This half day trip is so much more than a drive to the Cape Fur seal colony of Walvis Bay! As this is an outside activity, the weather influences the experience quite a bit, and no two tours are alike.
We start at the lagoon of Walvis Bay, which is a RAMSAR nature preserve site, with it's abundant wildlife. You will see most of the common sea birds of the area on this tour, as well as the Black Backed Jackal, native to this area. The tour is very photographer friendly, stopping where you want for as long as you want in order to take the best photographs.
On the subject of photographs, there is quite a bit of subject matter for the photographers, old jetties jutting out into the ocean, a small shipwreck and of course the lighthouse on it's base of sand, with impressive waves with seals. On windless days the water gives beautiful reflections as well.
We then proceed South towards the Salt Processing works of Walvis Bay. This is our famous pink lakes, and we get a bit of elevation for good photographs by parking on top of a dune close by the main processing site.
Winding our way through the wetlands you might see a mixture of Greater and Lesser Flamingo, as well as Pied Avocet, Cape Cormorants, Crowned Lapwing (Plover), White Fronted Plover, Hartlaubs Gull, Caspian Tern, Swift Tern, Damara Tern, Blacksmith Lapwing, African Black Oyster Catcher, Cape and Red billed teal, Little Egret and Grey Egrets.
We turn around at the Cape Fur Seal colony, after stopping for some pictures of the lighthouse, jetty and shipwreck.
Please note, this tour goes into nature, far from civilization. As such, there are no toilets. We will provide a privacy tent, seat, toilet paper and a hole in the ground if needed.
We offer free pickup in Walvis Bay, including the harbor of Walvis Bay, for this tour. As we are still solving the issues with the booking systems, please provide us with an email address on your booking so that we can give you with the best experience possible.
As always, bring your camera.
