Strand Book Store Tours

Located at 828 Broadway and Twelve in Greenwich Village, Strand Book Store features 18 miles  -- or two-and-a-half million titles -- of new, used, rare and out-of-print books. Open since 1927, the shop originally resided one block away from its current location on a strip called “Book Row,” which featured 48 bookstores all competing to be the best. Today, Strand Book Store is the sole survivor out of all these, making it one of the city’s most iconic book shops. A favorite experience to have is browsing the Rare Books Room, with titles from hundreds of years ago and hard-to-find items. For example, they have a complete set of Mark Twain books signed by the author as his pen name, Mark Twain, and his birth name, Samuel Clemens. Additionally, their art department houses the world’s largest art book selection. For those visiting with kids, their Children & Young Adults Section hosts weekly book-themed events like puppet shows and arts and crafts. Along with buying books at Strand Book Store, people can sell their new and used books to the store. Along with their main store, Stand Book Store also has a kiosk in Central Park at 60th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Hours for Stand Book Store are Monday through Saturday, 9:30am to 10:30pm, and Sunday from 11am to 10:30pm. To get to Stand Book Store by subway take the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R to Union Square.
